Somebody asked how would could anybody, in particular, measure the success of a campaign, such as “Drive for Blue Skies“. It was an interesting question and hard for one person to make a clear answer to that. For us, it’s not about how you measure success but how we distribute and educate people of what the campaign is all about.
Honda Cars Philippines, Inc. and General Manager, President Tatsuya Natsume welcomed us during our plant plant in Laguna last August 1. “With your (bloggers) support, we can help alleviate today’s present environmental problems. The International Energy Agency has included in one of its energy efficient policy, recommendations for the transport sector that eco-driving should be promoted by making it required for driver’s dedication programs,” he said. “So let me challenge you today, to help spread the word about eco-safe driving. Come and join us in this course to lead Blue Skies for our children. My name is Tatsuya Natsume, I hope you will drive with us for blue skies too. Maraming Salamat po!”
Patch Quila, Group Head, Corporate Planning Administration Division, Honda Cars Philippines, Inc., and Allan Santos, Digital Marketing, iProspect, conducted and organized the plant tour for bloggers and eco-warriors to share what Honda Cars Philippines, Inc., has been doing for the good of the environment and sharing the Drive for Blue Skies campaign by the Honda team and co-conveners of the #1MBlue of the eco-safe driving program, Bonar Laureto and Jove dela Torre.
Part of the tour was to visit the manufacturing and assembly parts division of Honda cars, as well to drive test four of the company’s model cars, the City, Civic, CRV, and Insight Hybrid. Honda Cars Philippines, Inc. is the headquarters of the one of the world’s largest car manufacturing company in the country.
Bonar Laureto is the Executive Director of an organization called Philippines Business for the Environment, a group of industries and private companies who are gearing towards sustainability. Honda Cars Philippines, Inc. or HCPI, is just one of their active members. Laureto assists HCPI in getting drivers to become eco-safe drivers for #1MBlue program. Being an eco-safe drivers means having to save half liters of fuel a day and 1MBlue targets 1 Million drivers who can save 500,000 liters of fuel everyday. That translates to 2.3 tons of CO2 removed or avoided from being emitted in the atmosphere.
Honda started as a company in Japan in 1947 and introduced the first Honda Civic in 1970 in America. Honda’s main core businesses are motorcycles; automobiles; power products such as generators, lawn mowers, etc.; and recently, Honda ventured in aviation industry with its first Honda Jet. In the Philippines, the start of company’s car manufacturing production started in 1992 with a capital of Php 1.1B and 545 work-force they called, Associates.
HCPI production per year is at 15,000 units with 50 Parts and 15 Materials Direct Suppliers. HCPI has 10 Manila and 18 Provincial Dealers with 4 Service Centers.
In 2012 Philippine Automobile Sales Report, HCPI ranked no.4 based on Market Retail Sales. Toyota tops the list while Mitsubishi and Hyundai follow at 2nd and 3rd position. Patch explained that this 2012 HCPI Sales Report was greatly a result and affected by the flood in Thailand and tsunami in Japan, thus making it a difficult year for the company. This year, HCPI is catching up, according to Patch.
Corporate Social Responsibilty
HCPI is focused on Environment, Safety, Education, and Philanthropy programs. Under Its Environment program, HCPI pushes in becoming a 100% Euro-4 Models, maintaining as a Green Company, propagating Green Purchasing and Green Dealership, and lastly, promoting Fuel Efficiency IEC.
Lastly, with 1MBlue “Drive for Blue Skies”, all it takes is a fuel, a vehicle, and an eco-safe driver to make up for a clean and clear environment.
