Officially, summer is out. The month of June has started and so the rainy season. But technically, the heatwave of summer is still warming up and yes, you can still make the last hurrah for summer if you want to. and while others are preparing for June classes, why not enjoy the remaining sunny days to an overnight (or extended) stay at Azumi Boutique Hotel in Alabang? Dive in to the infinity pool located at the roof deck of this Japanese/minimalist-inspired sophistication and be mesmerized by the view of Alabang metropolis, especially during the night time. These and more when you checked-in on this quaint new chic and stylish hotel, 45 minutes away from northern Manila area.
So much for the intro, and we bet you’re already googling Azumi by now. We understand. Azumi although barely new, just opened last January 2014 already got favorable nods not just from the locals but to some foreign guests and travelers.
Situated at the heart of the south, Azumi Boutique Hotel is but a short drive to Ninoy Aquino International Airport and its location within Madrigal Business Park makes it central for business and leisure travelers. Alabang Town Center and Molito Mall, with its varied offerings of shopping and dining pleasures are but a stone’s throw away. However, for an authentic Filipino gustatory experience with a side of Philippine history, one only needs to visit the iconic Romulo Café at the hotel lobby. Also located at the lobby is Nail Spa, a chic salon for that much needed relaxation.
For our review ratings, we are giving them an excellent grade for the wonderful stay and friendly staff all the way from the desk officers to the person who make watch of the guests by the pool side.
We were given a complimentary overnight stay and booked it last May 29-30, and we just had a blast. Normally, we would not prefer on checking-in on a hotel near a busy metropolis area because of the noises from vehicles passing by but surprisingly, our stay at Azumi almost did not give us a hint that we were in a busy area. Much more, we had a comfortable sleep during the night.
What We Love
1. The Room
We got a Queen Room, a relatively small, 25sqm Studio Unit that is, but pleasant place to spend the overnight. It has a Queen-sized bed and a couch (convertible day bed) on the side. Facing the bed is a cabinet and a work desk/area with a wall-mounted LED TV on top, a microwave, a refrigerator, a coffee/tea kettle, Wi-Fi access, telephone, and a safety deposit box.
Then there is the OMG bathroom. The bathroom itself is chic and much more perfect for couples with its see-through glass-walled. Maybe this was specifically made for couples or honeymooners. Because if you’re sharing this with a non-romantic room mate, it’s quite gonna be awkward if one of you goes inside the bathroom with the thoughts running that he or she might see your bathroom rituals inside. The truth of the matter is, they do have a roll-up/down privacy blinds.
2. Things to Do
Azumi as we mentioned above has a Nail Spa to accommodate the guests if they need some pampering. At the ground floor, Romulo Cafe, a Filipino specialty restaurant, is located. The restaurant opens at 6 in the morning and is open until the evening. We had a great breakfast and one of the best tocino I tasted is right here at Romulo Cafe.
Azumi also have two function rooms located at the roof deck and the most activity that you can find here is swimming 17th floor high with their Infinity Pool. Though this facility is one of their attractions, be in mind that only registered guests are allowed and children should be accompanied by their parents or adult because the design is a little bit adventurous. Upon checking-in, guests are required to sign a waiver for the use of the pool. Why? Because the pool is designed to stretch at the edge of the main wall of the roof deck as if like a cliff on top of a building. Aside from the fear-factor, it’s mostly fun. Oh, it’s only 5 feet deep so those who don’t know how to swim can still enjoy a dip in the pool. The pool opens from 6 AM to 10 PM.
If you have plenty of time moving around, you can stroll around metropolis and visit Alabang Town Center, METRO Mall, and Molito. They are just a walking distance away from the hotel. You can shop, watch movie, or dine-in at restaurants located inside the nearby complex. That’s what we did when we were there. We had dinner at PF Chang’s and afterwards, we watched Godzilla.
Basically, published rates are quite pricey. But we have tips for you. Visit their website, follow them on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram because every month they pull-out surprises and that include promo room rates that are really fit for the budget. For example, the published rate for a Queen Room is Php 8,000/net but you can get it the best available rate of Php 3,500/net. Just simply ask them or better yet call them at (+632) 869-9888 or (+632) 38AZUMI for the best deal when you plan your reservations.
Twitter and Instagram is both @azumihotel. Facebook is https://www.facebook.com/AzumiBoutiqueHotel.

So stay tuned ‘coz we will be sharing you the good news once the final details are complete.
What We Noticed
Like what we’ve mentioned, we gave Azumi an excellent rating for its over-all service but then again there are just quite a few minor details which we think can be better by this property.
1. Shuttle service has limited time only that starts at 12 NN and the service could go as far as the nearest mall only for pick-ups. Maybe they can provide (in the future) a shuttle service available for pick-up from the nearest airport or bus terminal in Alabang Metropolis where most of the guests would be coming since this is where the national highway is located.
2. Housekeeping should be mindful of the door knob signage that guests post on their doors. We hung our “Please Clean the Room” signage while we took a swim for about two hours and we expected that upon returning, we would be greeted by a well-tucked bed and clean room, but we went back without the changes. We could presume that housekeeping were busy but I think there should be at least one staff going around every floor to check for requests so when they happen to pass by a room with signage like that, they can either call a staff in charge to facilitate the service.
3. The use of the Infinity Pool are strictly available for registered room guests only. So it’s better to check-in the name of your companion if you’re expecting to use the pool. This is understandable but we also think that this would not be a welcome sign for future guests. Why? In other hotels that we knew of, the use of the pool does not have any restrictions so long that the invites of the guests who checked-in will follow the pool guidelines and allotted hours that they are allowed to. Filipinos (or even foreigners) are known to enjoy this kind of facilities with friends and it happens that in some cases, hotel guests invite their friends to join them for a swim. And there are hotels that are not strict with that as long as the invited friends will not overstay at the hotel. We hope that Azumi will take a look into that especially if the guests will invite their immediate family for an afternoon swim.
4. This one got us. We love coffee so much and the sight of coffee kettle inside our room excites us. But to our surprise, there were no available coffee that we can drink at all. Normally, in hotels that we stayed at, would have this kettle around and choice of coffee or tea beside it. Thus making coffee at your own time would be very satisfying. So what we did, we bought 3 sachets of instant coffee at the nearest 7-Eleven store just for us to enjoy a cup of hot drink inside our room. I think most of the guests here took notice of that.
Those were just a simple things that we find rather to put value and looking forward that Azumi will list them down for improvements. Other than that, it’s a well spent overnight stay at Azumi.
We would like to thank the front desk officers JinMer and Kathleen for welcoming us and even allowing us to check-in early before the standard time. Also, thank you to Mekoo Sung for offering some help just in case we need some things or requests to ask for. And also to Pia Kristina de Leon of Hospitality Innovators, Inc., one of the leading local management companies in the hospitality industry with 15 years of re-imagining and transforming management and operation of hotels, condormitels, resorts, condominiums and serviced residences, that also manages Azumi Boutique Hotel.
Azumi Boutique Hotel is located at 2205 Market Street, Madrigal Business Park Phase III, Alabang, Muntinlupa City, Philippines, 1780.
Footnote: We were provided with a complimentary overnight stay and the review here is our very own opinion and based from our experience at Azumi Boutique Hotel.
