It’s all over the news and at around 3:53 PM (Manila time), a Metro Rail Transit (MRT) train bound for EDSA Pasay-Taft Station overshoots and crashes into the barrier injuring numbers of passengers commuting in this much-used public transportation in Manila.
According to Regina Santos, one of the passengers interviewed by a DZMM Radyo Patrol ng Bayan reporter Zandher Cayabyab said that the incident started as the train was passing by the Magallanes Station-Southbound. Santos and other passengers heard a slight thud in the middle of the coach following visible smokes inside. Santos recalled that the pilot stopped the train along Magallanes tracks while passengers were requesting that they be permitted to board-off the train and walk the almost near EDSA Pasay-Taft Station. The pilot steered the train to the last station, probably as a protocol, but failed to stop it on the right track. While the train was approaching the last station, Santos said that the pilot told them to open the emergency doors and hang on to the steel rails as the train went fast approaching the station. It failed to stop and crashes into the barrier overshooting the railway station in EDSA.
According to one witness, Ryan who was standing near the station, told Lexi Shulze of ANC News on a patch radio interview, that a lot of injured passengers were being brought out of the coach and were immediately taken to a nearby hospital as traffic enforcers and the MMDA secure the area.
