Internationally-acclaimed Filipino independent filmmaker Brillante Mendoza held a two-day film workshop in Bulacan at SM City Marilao last September 18-19, 2014. Dubbed ‘Passion for Cinema Film Appreciation Workshop,’ Mendoza‘s first film workshop in the province, aims to promote and encourage awareness, appreciation, and understanding of the alternative art movement called ‘independent film’ or ‘indie-film.
‘Passion for Cinema Film Appreciation Workshop’ covered the different aspects of filmmaking – direction, screenplay, cinematography, acting, production design, sound, and editing. Students from different schools and universities as well as homegrown filmmakers and actors were able to have the rare opportunity to interact with Mendoza on thorough introduction to critical film viewing.
Featuring one of Mendoza’s critically-acclaimed indie-film ‘Thy Womb‘ that reaped three awards in Venice, Bisatro D’Oro, La Navicella o Venezia Cinema prize, and P. Nazareno Taddei Award Special Mention including 2012 Metro Manila Film Festival, the film workshop also included never before seen footage of indie -film making.
Mendoza hopes to inspire workshops participants’ probing and critical thinking skills while improving their capacity in relating to social issues.
The Brillante Mendoza Film Festival is a joint project of Centerstage Productions, SM Cinema, and SM City Marilao.
