Cebu Pacific brings home OFWs from Hong Kong with 30 free flights to the Philippines

The Philippines’ largest national flag carrier, Cebu Pacific (PSE:CEB) gave away 30 free flights to the Philippines last September 30, 2012, as a major sponsor of the Kalilang Mindanao event held at Chater Road in Hong Kong. Over 3,000 estimated attendees, most of whom were overseas Filipino workers (OFW), got a chance to win round trip flights from Hong Kong to Iloilo.

Hong Kong was the first international destination CEB launched in 2001. CEB now flies from Manila, Cebu and Clark to Hong Kong, and will begin thrice weekly Iloilo-Hong Kong services on November 8, and Hong Kong-Iloilo services on November 9.

The first international flight out of Iloilo International Airport, CEB’s Iloilo-Hong Kong route provides direct connectivity to Asia’s World City for OFWs and tourists from Western Visayas.

“CEB has always been committed to serve Global Filipinos. We look forward to bringing home 30 of our kababayans as the first passengers on Cebu Pacific’s maiden flight from Hong Kong to Iloilo this coming November 9. We will continue to serve the needs of Filipinos overseas by providing low fares and more travel options to the most extensive route network in the Philippines,” said CEB VP for Marketing and Distribution Candice Iyog.

Kalilang Mindanao is an annual cultural festival that showcases Mindanao’s unique and colorful culture, dances, and tradition while forging closer ties among Filipinos in Hong Kong. Now on its fifth year, the festival is open to all Filipinos residing and working in Hong Kong.

“Kalilang Mindanao brings together thousands of our Hong Kong-based kababayans in a joyful celebration of the richness of Filipino culture and pride. This year, we are glad that Cebu Pacific will allow 30 kababayans to be home with their families and loved ones during the holiday season. We look forward to providing similar opportunities in the future,” said Noel Servigon, Consul General of the Philippines in Hong Kong.

The 30 free flights to the Philippines for Kalilang Mindanao is just one of many travel opportunities CEB has provided global Filipinos. Earlier this year, CEB announced it will begin long-haul services in the 3rd quarter of 2013.

Iyog said, “For our long-haul services, we are exploring serving cities with large Filipino communities—Europe, Middle East, Oceania and the USA. We want to offer non-stop services so OFWs can reach their homes sooner and at lower fares compared to other airlines.”

CEB currently operates 10 Airbus A319, 21 Airbus A320 and 8 ATR-72 500 aircraft. Its fleet of 39 aircraft – with an average age of 3.6 years – is the largest aircraft fleet in the Philippines. Between 2012 and 2021, Cebu Pacific will take delivery of 21 more Airbus A320 and 30 Airbus A321neo aircraft orders.
