A beer brewing business that started inside a garage in Canada is sweeping the city of pines with flavorful beverages that will pique the interests of every Juans in Baguio City.
Chris Ordas is the man behind Baguio Craft Brewery (also known as The Tasting Room), who brought his wild idea, together with his two partners, of serving different flavors of beers here in Baguio. We met with Chris during the launch of GrabTaxi Baguio which was held in his bar.
“It started in my garage in Canada. Craft beer has been a lifestyle here (in the Philippines) and same thing in America as it boom for the past ten years. Right now, there are 4,500 micro craft brewery in North America,” Chris begins.
“I grew up here and migrated in Canada a long time ago. While I go back and forth in the country, it made me realized that there are only few choices of a good place that serves fantastic food and true beers. It’s my passion that made me brought the idea of setting up the business here.”
Aside from the 16 flavored tap beers that they showcase, Chris told us that they have a total of 39 beer variants available for their customers.
“I took the German-style of brewing and then infuse it with West Coast-style. We brought it here and match it with the panlasang Pinoy, which is more sweeter,” he continues.
When we asked him what beer among they’re selling he likes best, he said he likes the Message in a Bottle. Message in a Bottle has 7.6% content of alcohol, dark colored beverage with a caramel and coffee flavor hint in it.
The brewery is just located at the side of the bar.
Aside from beers, The Tasting Room at Baguio Craft Beer serves bar foods like chicken wings, tacos, plus extensive lineup of menus for the happy beer drinkers in town. For burger lovers, Chris also shared that they have two main burgers, perfect for beer pairings.
As for the moment, Baguio Craft Brewery’s concentration is to solidify their brand in Baguio and focus on full production in the region. But with a new group coming in, Chris told us that expanding or branching out would be a plausible idea without sacrificing and compromising the quality of their products. “I am not closing in with the possibility of us, branching out in Manila.”
