Last July 11, 2013, the Music Museum Group Incorporated and Greenhills Cinemas presented Dolby ATMOS – the newest experience for sound technology with “Pacific Rim” as the chosen film to be shown in Greenhills cinemas 6, 7 and 8.
The program started with the documentary film entitled, “Palasyo ng Pelikula” by Howie Severino that portrays the Filipino people, the beauty of different cinemas in the country and to inspire them about the film industry in the Philippines. And also, an award was given to Howie for making documentary films that inspire a lot of people mainly the filmmakers in the industry. Likewise, another award was given to Jun Tan of Golden Duck Group for introducing the first Dolby ATMOS in the Philippines.
The launch of the new cinemas and Dolby ATMOS were acknowledged by Mayor Guia Gomez of San Juan City, Senator Loren Legarda, Senator JV Ejercito and Mrs. Marga Ortigas. The cutting of the ceremonial ribbon was done by Senator JV, Mayor Gomez and one of the executives from Dolby. In addition, Greenhills Cinemas at Promenade was the first in the Philippines to offer Dolby ATMOS.
The night was star-studded, especially when the most awaited part of the event was revealed. The unveiling of a mural by the National Artist for the Visual Arts and Benedicto Cabrera, also known as BenCab made a gold metal mural that symbolizes the eight cinemas of Greenhills. BenCab made his first largest mural to date.
BenCab was accompanied by Senator Grace Llamanzares Poe, the former MTRCB chairperson and the daughter of Fernando Poe, Jr. together with Precy M. Florentino, President of Greenhills Cinemas. The mural beautifies the lobby of the new cinemas that it also serves as a new attraction in the movie house.
Florentino said that the movie theatre is elegant with murals that will make the people feel grand when watching a movie.
Peter Jackson, Film director of Dolby stated that Dolby Atmos wholly make you experience the sound that most people wanted to hear. In Dolby Atmos, the cinema is surrounded by speakers from left to right and from front and back. It made the film more exciting for the viewers.
With the film “Pacific Rim”, the viewers will have a chance experiencing Dolby Atmos . Furthermore, the film became more exciting and intense because of the sound technology that Dolby Atmos promotes to all moviegoers.
