SlingshotMNL2015 is a conference featuring top International figures in the field of startups and the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) is banking on this featured event which hopefully will encourage more startups in the country. This is in line with the advocacy to bring small businesses in the front center of global and regional trade.
SlingshotMNL will take place on July 6 and 7, 2015 at the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC) in Manila. it will be a two-day event conference that will feature discussions with leading figures in the International startup community like Startup Chile founder Nicolas Shea, Hugh Mason from leading Asian accelearator JFDI Asia, and Professor Richard Dasher from Stanford’s Graduate School of Business.
Movers and accelerators from the United States, Latin America, and Asia will be attending this grand convention, as well as successful startup businesses such as UBER, GrabTaxi, Rags2Riches, AirBnb, and mClinica, along with global entrepreneur support networks Endeavor and Ashoka.
“In organizing SlingshotMNL, we aim to gather promising startups in the region and present them potential mentors, investors, and business partners,” DTI Undersecretary Ponciano C. Manalo, Jr. said during a press conference held at DTI-International in Makati.
To add, SlingshotMNL is a tech startup convention that will demonstrate not just how big the community is in the region, but also how high the level of innovation in Asia-pacific is. It will be an avenue where startup companies, investment firms, and representatives of government can come together and learn about how the startup model can drive economies in the Asia-Pacific region and around the world, and an in-person networking activity where these companies can establish ties with supportive, forward-thinking investors.
“What I see with this conference, the big contribution it does is an inclusive form of growth; it doesn’t require huge amount of capital; the ability to foster entrepreneurship and build a base for strong entrepreneurs for economic growth, for job creation, for brand recognition, I think this (convention) is more relevant than ever,” said Minette Navarette, President Kickstart Ventures when asked about the importance of SlingshotMNL to Philippine business and economy.
