We were watching the Star Rangers (Go Ranger), also known as Himitsu Sentai Gorenger, throwback first episode on YouTube – this is one of our favorite and is the granddaddy of all super sentai series first aired in 1975. On their first episode, during the first gathering of the would be Star Rangers to defeat the evil Black Cross armada, Daito Oiwa (Yellow Ranger) came inside a Japanese restaurant, a Kare-ya, and ordered five bowls of curry rice. Surprised, the chef would not want to give him four bowls because he thought Oiwa would not finished it all and insisted to give him to bowls instead. The chef gave all Oiwa the four bowls of curry rice and was taken aback when he saw how Oiwa emptied all of the four bowls of curry rice! We are so sure that even back in 1975, a lot Japanese were fans of curry rice.
It’s no surprise because since the Japanese comfort food was introduced by the British who discovered it from the Indians in the 19th century, Japanese began reinventing the curry sauce to suit their taste., having a milder flavor and a thicker sauce. Today, the curry rice has become one of the huosehold favorites among Japanese and it might be as well considered as one of the country’s national dishes.
For Filipinos who love Japanese food, particularly the curry rice, it’s about time to celebrate because Eri Curry, home of Japanese comfort food is now open to give Filipino the experience of the taste of Japan‘s favorite comfort food.
