Ernest Cu, CEO and President of Globe Telecom addresses the issue and announces that Globe takes action against text spammers. This issue was brought up during the #GoSURFSpotify event held at The Globe Tower, recently.
“It hurts our brand because you think we sell those numbers. And I’m telling you, we don’t. And they don’t need to. All they need to know is 917, that’s it. And they start spamming from 001 all the way up to 1,000,000, sequentially. They don’t care if they throw away the rest of us the spam because it’s unlimited anyway. And we’ll take action and we’ll gonna make sure that we’ll try to minimize that along our network,” said Ernest, who also celebrated his birthday last May 13.

Globe remarkably opens strong for the first quarter of 2014 with a growth of 9% in service revenues and core net income and they continue to sustain growth on the back of programs that bring to life its commitment to its customers, business, employees, and the nation – collectively known as Project Wonderful.
In related news, Globe Telecom has filed a complaint with the National Telecommunications Commission against Caritas Shield Inc. for sending text spam to its mobile phone subscribers.
In the complaint filed with the NTC, Globe said Caritas should be immediately stopped from sending text spams, and sought a cease and desist order against Caritas.
Globe asked the NTC to order Caritas to pay appropriate fines and penalties for sending text spam.
The telco also wants the NTC to permanently bar Caritas, its agents and employees from sending these spam texts to Globe customers.
Globe said Caritas, a prepaid subscriber, had violated the terms and conditions specified in the user’s guide for its prepaid SIMs. It states that subscribers should “not use the prepaid service, handset, SIM cards, call & text card for any fraudulent or abusive purpose.”
Globe General Counsel Froilan Castelo said Globe is cracking down on companies whose agents use text spam as part of their marketing strategy.
Caritas is notorious for sending spam text messages to Globe and TM subscribers. The text spam usually states: “Caritas Health Shied Inc. offers a pre-approved comprehensive health card with money-back guarantee. If you’re interested, please reply with your name, age and address. Our health consultant will assist you shortly.”
Globe has received complaints from subscribers, who say they get an average of 5 to 10 text spams a day.
“The clamor of customers to combat spam messages has become a matter of public interest so the NTC should use all its disciplinary powers against spammers like Caritas,” Globe said in the complaint.
