Just finished watching GOTHAM Season 2 Episode 4 Rise of the Villains: Strike Force and damn, was it heartbreaking to see that Jim and Penguin finally breaking their brotherhood of sorts?
In Rise of the Villains: Strike Force episode we see Penguin forcibly controlled by this new villain Theo Galavan who has a sinister plan of destroying Gotham City. But of course he needs the help of Oswald Cobblepot aka the Penguin to accomplish this diabolical plan of his. At first, Penguin tried to diss Theo‘s grand masterplan reminding him that he is not a destroyer. But after Theo and his sister Tabitha aka the Tigress, showed him his hostage mother, Penguin doesn’t have a choice but to do what Theo asks him to.
Theo asks Penguin to kill his mayoralty candidate opponents so he can run and win the coming election as the new mayor. Eventually, Gordon found out about Penguin’s participation and had to warn him that the new GCPD command, no favors will be allowed from Gotham‘s worldly criminals.
GCPD also has a new elite commandos, the Strike Force, assigned under Jim.
There’s not so much action or drama on this episode but we certainly don’t feel this Theo running the city and manipulating Penguin. Oh, before we forget, finally, Edward Nygma and Kristin Kringle sealed their first romantic moments on this episode. We’re now wondering when will his Riddler character will come out.
The origin story continues on GOTHAM and the stakes are higher than ever, as Super Villains more ambitious and depraved are introduced, and a realignment of alliances shakes up the fight for power in Gotham City. With Detective Gordon (Ben McKenzie) and the ethically questionable veteran Detective Harvey Bullock (Donal Logue) at the forefront of the fight against crime in this dangerously corrupt city, season two will witness Gordon’s moral compass wavering, as he confronts Gotham’s most notorious criminals. At the same time, he will continue his quest to gain the trust of the young Bruce Wayne (David Mazouz), who is on a clear path towards the man he is destined to become, after discovering his father’s deepest secrets. In the epic turf war that occurred at the conclusion of season one, Oswald aka the Penguin (Robin Lord Taylor) battled his way into power over Gotham’s underworld.
GOTHAM continues to follow the evolving stories of the city’s most malevolent villains: Edward Nygma/The Riddler (Cory Michael Smith), whose transformation from Gotham PD‘s forensic expert to psychologically unhinged villain continues; Selina Kyle/the future Catwoman (Camren Bicondova), whose hard-knock existence propels her into a life of crime; and the increasingly unstable Barbara Kean (Erin Richards).
