GRINGO HONASAN A SOLDIER TURNED REBEL WITH A CAUSE

Gringo Honasan Transcribed (Part 2): “I looked at him (Marcos) like a god”

As promised, here is the second part of our conversation with Senator Gringo Honasan. In continuation of his platforms and agenda, he speaks of tax-exemptions, government funding, his first order of business if elected as vice president, and how he looked at Marcos during his time as a soldier, pre-EDSA People Power days.

Tax-exempt for below PHP 30,000 earners

Nasa platform namin yan. Any income below P30,000 tax-free. The only sure things in life are death and taxes. It’s unfair. Tapos because of utang na loob, kapag naka-upo na, sisingilin mo? So paano mo mase-serve yung public interest kung if you’re indebted already to your major contributors?

During this segment, Honasan made a remark on SSS’s reported funding that it will be not enough by 2027. “And you learn, I hope it’s not true, that the bonuses and monthly salaries of the officers of this government corporation are obscene. P2,000 lang gusto mo ipagkait pa?

Reduced taxes might led to government fund shortage, is that true?

So that our economy will be vibrant. Buy ka ng ‘made in the Philippines’ para yung learning curve ng mga producers natin of goods and services will go up. Ang Japan, nagdaan sa pinagdadaanan natin ngayon. Kaya lang sila, mas may focus. Bigyan mo ng buying power yung tao, wag mong pahirapan. Hindi na yan pupunta sa mall. Pupumta lang yan sa mall para magpa-aircon. Lower the taxes para may disposable income. By the way, I’m not an economist. But, ganun  siguro ako. Huwag mo akong pahirapan sa taxes, lagi akong pupunta sa mall.

That makes sense at all. You don’t need to be an expert in economics just to see how taxes and buying power revolves around.

How do we fund government projects and promises?

Mangutang tayo (World Bank). Ang collateral natin ay napakayos na bansa. Isangla muna natin ang Mindanao. Seryoso ako. Let’s change the constitution so that they can own it properly. That’s the catch. But generate employment. Sabihin natin sa mga foreign investors, we will make our policies predictable, kahit sino ang presidente, eto ang susundin namin. It’s about time to confront the issue of charter change.”

In short, ang isasangla natin ay 30 million hectares of productive land. You look our country from the air, andaming nakatiwangwang na lupa.”

First order of business assuming he’s elected into office as VP

Through an ‘Administrative Order, Signed by the President’ ‘pag sinabi nyang, ‘Organized crime is a national security problem’, magvo-volunteer akong maging national security adviser. Lahat ng intelligence agency, magre-report sa akin and I will have a small strike force. Pag medyo malaking sindikato, aba eh pahiramin nyo ako ng helicopter at lulusubin ko yun.

I’m over-simplifying it. That’s the way it should be. May instant shock, pain, and numbness.”

Role of VP

To wait for the job that will be given to him by the president. That’s one part. The other part is, by law, it’s a job. Just in case temporarily or permanently incapacitated yung presidente, the vice president, who must be equally qualified, must be prepared to take over. Nakatunganga ka roon, Dun ka magdadasal na sana masagasaan ng tricycle…,” Honasan tells us while abruptly interrupted with laughter emanating inside the four corners of the press holding area of their party list headquarter in Mandaluyong City.

On former presidents Ferdinand Marcos and Fidel Ramos

“I looked at him (Marcos) like a god.”

GRINGO HONASAN, SOLDIER, REBEL, POLITICIAN
GRINGO HONASAN, SOLDIER, REBEL, POLITICIAN

As a straightforward as a soldier, Marcos, before he lost control because he got sick, I believe in the competence and moral authority of the one giving the order, all the way to the top. President Marcos was the only president I ever knew. I looked at him (Marcos) like a god with a small ‘g’. Too bad, we had to try to attack his palace because he lost his moral authority and ascendancy to govern our people. It was my duty as a soldier, a soldier of the Filipino people, not of any administration.

With Ramos, 6 years, uninterrupted political stability. Tiger Cub Economy tayo.”

Why should people vote for Gringo Honasan?

At kayo.

Yan ang dahilan kung bakit worth considering ako as vice president. Sa inyo ako humuhugot ng suporta. Wala akong bloke, wala akong Solid North, pero yung maliliit na pira-piraso na pagtitiwala, kapag pinagsama-sama mo yan eh di lusot ako.

Ngayon ang hinihingi ko is baka pwede niyong tignan ang record ko, dahil kaya kong maging presidente ng bansa, Hindi sa pagmamalaki, alam ko exactly ang gagawin ko as God is my witness.  Sa tingin ko hindi ko naman kayo ipapahiya or I will die trying.”

Message to keyboard warriors

You cannot afford to have any unnecessary problems. Avoid stress. Life is stressful. Iwasan niyo na magkasakit physically, emotionally, psychologically, and even spiritually. Hindi ako nagmamalinis or nagmamarunong. Dahil pag nagkasakit ka minsan di ka makakain, makatulog, makapagtrabaho. So ano ang silbi mo dito sa bagong challenge natin? To communicate, maging alternative media. Kayo ang sagot dyan. You are a powerful tool for a peaceful revolution that will harness the power of information technology.
