This is not your ordinary fun run. Take from us who witnessed a sneak peek of Guerilla Race that will take place on Corregidor Island come May 21-22, 2016.
The race, organized by Race Director Lt. Col. Dennis Bumanglag, is not just a test of endurance but a while new level of gruesome action and high-pumping experience with military-inspired obstacles that is first in the history of Philippines’ race.
Set in the historical Corregidor, an island remembered where the country’s freedom were fought from its oppressors during the Japanese occupation in World War II. The island is also remembered where the Battle of Corregidor on May 5-6, 1942 culminated the Japanese conquest of the Commonwealth of the Philippines during that era.
This time, for the sixth Gueilla Race, runners will face the historical, daunting wilderness, and off-track slopes of Corregidor. One of the places where the runners will race is the Malinta Tunnel, one of the many tunnels Corregidor Island is famous for.
This year’s race is a two-day event set for runners, individual, and team, of different distance categories. The race is divided into four different categories: Day 1 is set for the runners for the Guerilla Sprint which is 5 km with 12 obstacles waiting for them in the course and the Guerilla Warrior who will conquer the 10 km run with 24 obstacles to face. Day 2 is for the Panthers. These are the 21 km runners who are to triumph over 37 obstacles. There will also be team category for all the distances (5km, 10km, and 21km).
Guerilla Race is very special to Lt. Col. Bumanglag as part of the proceeds of the race will be donated to the Armed Forces of the Philippines Educational Benefit System Office (AFPEBSO) to assist the education of the orphans of our soldiers who sacrificed their lives for the service to the country.
Registration fees are PHP1,000 for 5km Sprint, PHP1,300 for 10km Warrior? And PHP1,500 for Panthers race-kit excluding the ferry ride which can be booked with Sun Cruises which cruises daily for historical and adventure getaway to and from Esplanade Seaside Terminal, SM Mall.of Asia Complex in Pasay and Corregidor Island, vice-versa.
The sneak peek also gave us the chance to meet Ride N’ Seek host Jaime Dempsey who was also documenting some footage of the pre-Guerilla race event for her upcoming show.
