If there is one thing that you can give back to your home country, what would it be?
This question popped in my mind when I realized we’re only a few days left before we celebrate Philippine Independence Day. In Filipino, it’s also known as Araw ng Kasarinlan (also called, Araw ng Kalayaan).
It was on June 12, 1898 when the first Independence Day was celebrated from the balcony of the ancestral home of Emilio Aguinaldo, waved the Philippine flag to its candor as our country observed the Declaration of Independence from Spain on that day. Since 1962, June 12 has been our National Day. For those who still have the old PhP 5 bill, the Proclamation of Independence is depicted at the back of the paper bill.
The Aguinaldo Shrine in Kawit, Cavite has been one of the historical tourist spot in the country.
Malaki. Very much important. Without this declaration of Independence, we wouldn’t know what might have become of our country if not for this celebration.
Regarding as to who are the person(s) we owe our independence from a nation that colonized the Philippines for more than 300 years, we and the next generations to come, have a lot to give thanks to them.
For me, there are a lot that we can do to commemorate and say ‘thank you’ to our country. We can dedicate the whole day (or month) of Independence by reliving the heroism of our countrymen who gave up their lives so we can have our own identity as one nation.
We can also maintain being a good citizen by following rules and regulations like road signs, obeying traffic signs, no littering, giving seats to elders and pregnant women, giving back extra loose change from the sari-sari store, mindful of others when inside the cinema, and many more.
Inside our home, we can intitiate dishwashing campaigns for each members of the family, going home early instead of being late, taking grandma or grandpa to his/her favorite Jollibee store, having Jolly meals altogether with the whole members of the family, etc.
Proudly singing the National Anthem is the best way to say ‘thank you’ that we can show our love, respect, and appreciation to our country.
Ikaw, anong gift mo sa Pilipinas?
In addition to this article, I would also like you to share your thoughts on this.
