The Champions for Health Governance (CHG) is an initiative that commends top performing local government units (LGUs) that ensure good health and well-being of its constituents through excellent and efficient implementation of their loval health programs.
This year, the Kaya Natin! Movement for Good Governance & Ethical Leadership collaborates with global biopharmaceutical company MSD in the Philippines and non-profit organization Jessie Robredo Foundation for the 2019 Champions for Health Governance Awards.
Jessica Mae Robredo, daughter of the late Jessie Robredo and chairman of Jessie Robredo Foundation together with acting Olongapo City Mayor Sara Garcia introduced Kaya Natin! Movement’s role in commending and evaluating local leadership, transparencyx and accountability.
“My father, Jessie Robredo had always believed in the power of the local government. CHG seeks to challenge our local leaders to generate innovative ways to solve their localities’ health problems despite the odds,” explains Jessica.
Dr. Herminigildo Velasco, Mayor, San Gabriel, La Union, CHG Awards 2017 winner shared during the launch the immediate effect of enabling the government in making the health programs the main priority in ensuring good health and well-being of local government constituents. Likewise, Plaridel, Bulacan and CHG Awards 2017 winner Mayor Jocelle Vistan-Casaje mentioned the benefits of health programs and seminars to their constituents and baranggays. Specifically, the programs prioritize the women and mothers residing in the town of Plaridel.
The top five winning LGUs from the city or municipal level will receive a cash grant worth P100,000 to fund thwir best health programs and continue their outstanding initiatives in health.
Dr. Beaver Tamesis, President and Managing Director, MSD speaks about championing municipalities and cities as they see admirable health programs, hoping to ensure to spread in many municipalities seeing multiplier effect and reach many Filipinos who need the most with desperate help.

Aside from Ica Robredo, Kaya Natin! board member Harvey S. Keh led the formal launch of the 2019 Champions for Health Governance Awards today, November 8, 2018.
Philippines Vice-President Leni Robredo sent her video message and support to CHG Awards initiatives.
