Kuya J Restaurant offers traditional Filipino comfort food and dishes on a dining experience that is like an extension of your family kitchen! Kuya J started as a casual dining hole-in-the-wall restaurant in Cebu and is slowly penetrating Metro Manila with 4 branches located in SM Mall branches and is targeting more branches in GMA, Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao.
We’ve mentioned in our headline that Kuya J is like an extension of the family’s kitchen and it stays true by their name. As the name suggests, Kuya J spawns from the Filipino Tagalog word ‘kuya‘ which means older brother of a set of siblings in the family. Thus the word ‘kuya’ in Kuya J connotes a sense of family relationship, a bonding that extends from the family kitchen to the casual dining. Kuya J represents the homey atmosphere inside the restaurant from the food they serve and the well-mannered employees, and especially with a touch of brotherly love.
That is why during the opening of Kuya J at SM City Novaliches branch, iKitchen Inc. have chosen celebrity siblings Camille and John Prats plus Phil and James Younghusband to grace the opening and spend their sibling bonding moments along with other guests. Incidentally, both ‘kuyas’ have their names starting with the letter ‘J‘s’. Gelli Victor hosted this particular event.
Going back to Kuya J’s delectable and mouth-watering dishes, we were able to sample almost all of the food available on their menu during the opening at SM City Novaliches. The quintessential Crispy Pata always gets the rave in every dining table. And Kuya J’s Crispy Pata can top other restaurants’ versions, as far as our gastronomic craving is concern!
We are always on the quest for the best and crunchiest Crispy Pata whenever we are visiting a Filipino restaurant and 50 percent of the ones we have been to, fail our passing grades. One restaurant (the other is Barrio Fiesta) that we are truly satisfied with their Crispy Pata is from Max’s Restaurant. This was before we were introduced to Kuya J. So now, our pick for the Top 3 Restaurants with the Best and Crunchiest Crispy Pata are Barrio Fiesta, Max’s, and Kuya J.
Everybody loves Crispy Pata but not every restaurants can cook like the 3 restaurants we’ve mentioned above. For the price, we can say that Kuya J’s is a little bit affordable compared with Max’s and Barrio Fiesta. At Php 485 and Php 650, you can enjoy Regular and Family size, for your satisfaction.
Another thing that we’ve found interesting and unique in Kuya J is the serving glass of their Fruit Shakes and Juices. It’s not the regular drinking glass but a pitcher-like bottle glass that comes when you order drinks at Kuya J. Drinks varies from fruit shakes, juices, softdrinks, alcoholic beverages, brewed coffee, and the home-styled Tablea Tsokolate Eh!
You better visit Kuya J so you’ll know what we are talking about and don’t forget to order Grilled Scallops, Chorizo Dinamitas, Lumpia Presko, Kare-Kare, Pochero, and a lot more. Our tip: Pair your Grilled Scallops with a cold beer! Of course, don’t you forget that Crispy Pata or your visit to Kuya J won’t be complete without it.
They also serve the sweetest and sinful desserts like Leche Flan, Tablea Coffee Flan, Mango Pandan, and would you believe, they also have Fried Halo-Halo on their menu?!
Aside from SM City Novaliches, Kuya J has also opened branches in SM City Marikina, SM City BF Parañaque and SM Sta. Mesa.
