Last night, me and few select guests were treated to a very exclusive and secret dinner hosted by Lamudi Philippines, a Rocket Internet venture, and brought to a posh residential condominium property, The Beacon Makati, where a wonderful evening sight of Makati all the way to Manila Bay area can be seen on top of The Beacon’s Roof Deck – where the secret dinner was held.
Conceptualized and popularized in the United States, the Secret Dining Society offers something unique where people can discover new places and enjoy great food while socializing with guests coming from different sectors of the community. Lamudi Philippines brought the concept here and tied up with the two other Rocket Internet ventures, Foodpanda, a food mobile application; and Easy Taxi, a popular mobile taxi app.
The arrangement was for people to join the Facebook contest on Foodpanda and Easy Taxi pages. Once selected, a pair will be carpooled by Easy Taxi ride and will be brought to a secret location, which is The Beacon Makati.
The dinner was sponsored by Relik Tapas Bar and Lounge which prepared Amuse Bouche and Green Salad with Chorizo for appetizers; Grilled Tanigue with White Bean and Chorizo stew and Roasted Vegetable Quinoa for the main course; and Tocino del Cielo for dessert. Instead of wine, which could very well go with the Grilled Tanigue, another Secret Dining Society sponsor offered Patron Tequila drinks – tequila shots and tequila chocolate coffee mix.
Jacqueline van den Ende, founder/managing director of Lamudi Philippines, welcomed guests from the Facebook contest page and media outlets covering the Secret Dining Society event.
The Beacon Makati, a resort-like living lifestyle composed of three skyscrapers with spacious units with a nice view of Makati skyline, Cavite and Manila Bay, is located along Pasong Tamo-Don Chino Roces Avenue. The Beacon Makati is one of the real estate property showcased on Lamudi Philippines online website.
The effort of Lamudi Philippines to bring together different people on a secret getaway is commendable but the overall first take on this concept here in the country made only little impressions on mine. It’s neither good nor bad, but as they say, first impressions lasts. The first Secret Dining Society could have had more of the flair, which is by the way, was what I’ve expected to experience. Upon sharing conversations with other guests, I’ve found out that I wasn’t the only one who felt this way.
The choice of food through Foodpanda served by Relik, I know it maybe expensive, but to leave a satisfactory taste in the mouth, was something just like out of the ordinary.
Maybe, I have gone to too many events that is why I was looking for something more exciting and interesting. But since this was Lamudi Philippines’ first Secret Dining Society event, it should have been, right? And as the beautiful blue-eyed Jacqueline mentioned, this will not be the last Secret Dining Society event that they will host in the future. “Our dream is that this will become a recurring series of events and that together we will explore the most surprising and beautiful places in the Philippines. It’s also particular opportunity to find and meet new people,” said Jacqueline.
The choice of location, the Roof Deck, The Beacon Arnaiz Tower was fantastic. No words for it.
As for the Easy Taxi ride, since we got home safe and we never worried for the pick up door-to-door, we will give the mobile taxi booking app a big ‘Thank You‘ for letting us experiencing the service.
The Secret Dining Society was a success after all in bringing us together for this new concept dinner-networking. It was fun, and it was my first time at The Beacon. The event had raffle prizes and gave us Wine Depot and Patron Tequila souvenirs.
The effort and concept is great. It’s already there. They already have perfect partners and ingredients to make the Secret Dining Society the next big thing in lifestyle, food, tech, travel events in the future. Just my two-cents.
