Lenovo VIBE S1 review

Considerably, the Lenovo VIBE S1 is the perfect selfie camera phone in the Lenovo VIBE Series.

Camera

We have proven its depth and sharpness when we brought the VIBE S1 in our Sinulog Festival trip this January. We can say that it exceeded our expectation for the selfie camera mode in comparison with previous brands that we’ve reviewed so far.

Also it passed in our night time low light photography when we took shots of an electronic music fest and fireworks display.

There is a little if none of a noise and images are captured even on night mode condition.

These shots were made possible with the Lenovo VIBE S1 dual front selfie camera 8MP + 2MP and rear 13MP camera (auto-focus + dual-LED flash) with built-in photo editing feature for modification.

The dual functionability of the front camera make an easy and cleanest selfie shots you could imagine. It’s like taking a picture using the rear camera.

Rear camera is geo-tagging, touch focus, face detection, HDR, and panorama enabled.

The only missing part of the camera function is the manual setting which is not available on this unit. So, it’s either you use the Auto or Panorama mode to capture the images you want that you can set up.

Display

5.0″ Full HD Display at 1080 x 1920 pixels resolution multi-touch for 5 fingers.

OS and Processor

Lenovo VIBE S1 is already Android 5.0 Lollipop with fast Octa-core 1.7 GHz processor running with 3GB of RAM. This makes the camera and phone to work fast without any lag.

For storage, the 32GB ROM can hold a big amount of items and it is also expandable up to 128GB via microSD card.

Build and Design

The build and design of the Lenovo VIBE S1 is built to last with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 on a curved-rear panel with metallic frame that goes from side to side. It’s also lightweight at 132g with a 7.88mm profile that can easily tucked inside the pocket.

It’s slim and a very perfect size that fits with the palm of the hand.

SIM

Lenovo VIBE S1 comes in with Dual SIM (nano) functionality with LTE capability. SIM 2 is interchangeable for microSD card.

Benchmark

We tested the Lenovo VIBE S1 on AnTuTu Benchmark and we got a score of 46,398.

Battery

As for the battery, it’s a typical 2500mAh non-removable that can last all day long on standby and data use.

Other Features

  • 3.5mm jack
  • microUSB V2.0
  • Bluetooth V4
  • GPS
  • FM radio

Price

The unit comes with a free screen protector (PHP 299) and back cover (PHP 599) when you purchase the Lenovo VIBE S1. That’s already a big savings.

Price point, selling at PHP 15,999, the Lenovo VIBE S1 is a perfect buy especially if your main purpose is for taking selfie photos.

Our verdict

With all these great features, we would recommend the Lenovo VIBE S1 for you to buy and see for yourself the value-for-money worth of this unit.

On a scale of 1 to 5, the Lenovo VIBE S1 takes a home run.
