A local ID and pay system was launched in time for the 347th Foundation Day in Makati and the MOA signing was held last May 30, 2017 at the 22nd floor of the Makati City Hall.
Present during the signing were Globe Telecom President and CEO Ernest Cu and Makati City Mayor Abigail ‘Abby’ Binay.
Powered by GCash, the new and multi-purpose ID covers Makati city residents’ health and social benefits as well as other services allowing Makatizen Card to be used in replacement of other numerous cards. Makatizen Card is only available to Makati city residents.
It’s a valid government identification card with the pay system technology of a GCash mobile wallet. Makatizen card can be used as payment for financial services or iBayad to pay the local government institutions, hospitals, and establishments. And to charge up Makati City with this technology, Makatizen Card can also be used to purchase and pay goods at local sari-sari stores, as well as ambulant vendors selling fishballs and local street foods.
The city government has also agreed to help us streamline the permitting process to put up critical telco infrastructure in this city which is actually very much needed as connectivity is the key,” Cu said as he lauded Makati government in taking the first step to a unified ID system and the financial inclusion of the marginalized sector.
Around 1,000 Makatizen cards were turned over during the launch. Cardholders can receive cash allowances, stipends and other cash benefits, as well as pay fees and taxes using the Makatizen card.
