1. Do you know that Manila
Hotel is celebrating its 102th anniversary this year?
Yes, you’ve read that right. On October 2014, the longest and oldest hotel that is standing in Manila will be celebrating its 102th anniversary. Since its foundation in 1912, the Manila Hotel had withstood two world wars; number of Philippine presidents; survived calamities; and witnessed turn-overs in politics. This year will be a big year for the hotel as they are rolling-out a whole new transformation beginning with its iconic logo.
Atty. Joey Lina serves as the current president of Manila Hotel for 7 years and 7 months, to be exact.
2. Manila Hotel now sports a new logo.
A new emblem and typography will be visible in the coming days as Manila Hotel revealed the beginning of changes that is happening throughout the year.
Denise Tambuatco, SVP, Marketing, Manila Hotel, explains that the change in logo is somehow going back where Manila Hotel was used to be, during the colonial period. The new font is not just a simple design but also gives emphasis back to the ‘old’ Manila Hotel. The branding is just the tip of the iceberg according to Kristine Facto, Assistant Vice President, PR and Corporate Communications Media Relations Officer, Manila Hotel. And we will definitely be patiently waiting for the whole new change. (Image of the new logo will be made available as soon as we get a hi-res copy).
3. Do you know that to stay at MacArthur’s Suite will cost you $3,300?
That’s a whole lot of money, we should say. But if you are up to the prestige and classic experience, this is priceless.
In this suite, Gen. Douglas MacArthur and wife stayed in during WWII. When Pres. Osmeña asked MacArthur for his military assistance, the late president booked the general to this hotel all for his convenience. In this hotel also was his son, Arthur MacArthur IV was conceived and the boy’s first steps in this hotel were captured on photo and is now part of Manila Hotel’s archives.
