Did you know that Mister Donut, a fast food franchise founded in the US in the mid 50s, main market is in Japan, with more than 1,300 stores? It started when Duskin Co., Ltd. of Osaka, Japan acquired the rights to franchise Mister Donut throughout Japan and Asia in 1983. That’s around 30 years ago. Since then, Mister Donut has become the largest donut chain operating in Japan.
That’s just a bit of an intro because now, in the country, we soon start to experience the ‘feel‘ of Mister Donut’s Japan branding, products, and the way they serve, now that Mister Donut opens its first flagship Café store in the Philippines.
Mister Donut Café is now serving 24/7 at the Greenhills Shopping Complex along Ortigas Ave. in San Juan.
The vibrant and ‘happy mood‘ ambiance of the flagship store aims to target the Generation Y or the young people and hopefully will embrace the more upbeat branding of Mister Donut.
In relation with the opening, Mister Donut Café also introduces a new face, plus new products to go with the new look. The new ‘poster-boy‘, as we should we call him that way, is Pon de Rick, a Japanese pastry chef who enjoys nothing more that to discover all the flavors this Earth has to offer. Best known for creating the Pon de Ring, he has recently found his way to our humble islands and has decided to stay. And he brings to our shore a new product, a ring of chewy, fluffy, irresistible little balls which took Japan by storm. Outside, it looks like a ring of donut balls stuck together, but inside the slightly crunchy exterior is something words can’t explain. The mouth watering goodness can only be justified by the sounds one conjures after taking a bite. And another. And another.
Inspired by the classic Brazilian origin, Pão De Queijo, Pon de Rick developed his own and called it Pon de Ring. And along with slew of other new menu items such as the All-Day Breakfast, Pastas, Burgers, and even Milkshakes, these products can now be enjoyed at Mister Donut Café Greenhills Shopping Complex.
Soon they will be opening their next Mister Donut Café at the SM Megamall in Mandaluyong and TriNoma Mall in Quezon City. Good thinking!
