There is a new restaurant in Uptown Parade, BGC that is making sure your love for Southern American cuisine gets the fix of what your taste bud desires.
Just in time while the Rio Olympics 2016 is happening in Brazil, NAXIONAL officially opens its door to die-hard food lovers and curious taste buddies of the Southern American dishes. NAXIONAL is the newest go-to restaurant for those looking to broaden their culinary horizons. NAXIONAL is at the 2nd floor of Uptown Parade.
NAXIONAL is a brainchild of Raymund Magdaluyo of the Red Crab Group, who got his inspiration while visiting diners abroad including Coppelia in New York and Electric Diner in London. Raymund met up with Jun Sunga and wife Vanessa Matsunaga to turn that vision into a reality.
Vanessa is the sister of Brazilian actor Daniel Matsunaga who is part of the South American partners which include their mom, Gege Matsunaga. Other well-known South American partners include Lifestyle Network Venezuelan host and winner of “The Clash”, Cynthia Patos and model/dj Luane de Lima.
“We want the menu to be South American home-cooked dishes, which we think Filipino diners would love to try. Family cooking takes time, so you have to put effort on these dishes. We designed the menu well enough that dishes (need to be) prepared a day or two (ahead),” said Cynthia.
NAXIONAL is basically a team effort by partners who are originally from South America and the Philippines (a Fil-Am included) who loved the Filipino ways, history, and culture. With that in mind, NAXIONAL was born to give fellow Pinoys the taste of Southern American flavors which include 10 of the best recipes from 10 South American countries. These flavors include dishes from Colombia, Brazil, Peru, Bolivia, Venezuela, Cuba, Puerto Rico, Ecuador, and Mexico. If the Philippines have distinguished its roots from the Adobo, NAXIONAL’s signature dish, Puerto Rican household Patacones is equally deserving to make an appetizing feast on Filipino tables. Patacones is made up of customer’s choice of meat perfectly seasoned in sofrito sauce, topped with Carne (beef), Cerdo (pork), or camarones (shrimp), served with fried plantains and guacamole.
“All our experience were put together, and allowed us to have a unique and exciting concept of bringing the Latin American culture in Manila,” said Lei Norwood, NAXIONAL partner and wife of Fil-Am basketball player, Gabe Norwood. “As Gabe and I explore South America, we fell in love with their food and we are excited to share our favorite flavors with everyone. NAXIONAL is basically born out of the collective passion we and the partners have.”
NAXIONAL’s menu is heavily inspired and filled with traditional family recipes cooked with not just imported spices, but also with locally sourced ingredients from the crops of Filipino farmers which makes it more flavorful.
NAXIONAL’s menu contains the following sets: Pasabocas (starters), Ensalata (salads), Sopas (soup), Brunch, Entrees for both one and for sharing. Asadas (grilled meat), Sandwiches and Desserts. The al fresco bar is ready to introduce new South American cocktails to the Philippines.
The diner is open Monday to Saturday, 11 AM to 1 AM and on Sundays from 8 AM to 10 PM.
