Outcast is an American-horror drama created by Robert Kirkman of The Walking Dead and artist Paul Azaceta which debuted last June 4 on FOX in the Philippines and Southeast Asia. Outcast also simulcasted on FOX Filipino and STARWorld within hours of the US premiere on June 3, 2016.
Outcast is a supernatural-horror with demonic possession anchored on its story-line subjected with fear factors never before seen with Kirkman’s The Walking Dead.
The first episode “A Darkness Surrounds Him” builds up the character of Kyle Barnes, played by Patrick Fugit (Almost Famous), who returned to a small town called Rome in West Virginia after a long absence. In his return, Kyle met Rev. Anderson (Philip Glenister) and through his childhood experience of the supernatural, Kyle and Rev. Anderson fought a demonic entity possessing the body of a young boy, Joshua.
It was revealed, through flashbacks, that Kyle’s mother also suffered the demonic possession when he was just a young kid. The townsfolk knew of the incident and some old folks from the ministry, whom Kyle later met in a grocery store, urged him to pray over for Joshua.
Outcast comic book was first published in 2014 and the TV series came to life after Kirkman and Sharon Tal Yguado, who runs FOX International, met and had a casual talk of Kirkman’s latest projects. Sharon liked the idea of Exorcism-like plot and the following week, Kirkman got calls from his agents and managers to start the Outcast project.
The premiere episode was bat-shit crazy and if you’re the type of audience who can’t withstand to see cockroaches in full view screen, then you’ll be missing a lot if you’re not able to see this episode.
Overall, the first episode got us glued to our seat as we watched the premiere telecast inside FOX Philippines office last Thursday evening, June 2. We got the premiere invitation for the exclusive screening and off we went to FOX’s.
But before we watched Outcast, we were invited to take a look at the pop-up Outcast Art mural stationed at Bonifacio Global City as part of the mural displays in various key locations in 13 countries all over the world. Team Manila was given the rights to create the Outcast mural in Manila, based on Azaceta’s illustration depicted on from one panel from the scene’s storyboard, similar to panels in a comic book.
One mural in one city revealed hidden scenes and unveiled online at http://outcastart.tv which began on May 28 and ended on June 3.
“FOX is excited to be featuring another show that pushes the envelope for the horror genre on TV, and an original scripted drama by FNG at that. We’re confident that Filipino fans who have loyally been tuning in to Kirkman’s previous work on The Walking Dead will embrace Outcast as another fine example of edgy storytelling, relatable characters, and excellent production,” said Charo Espedido, Director and Head of Marketing at FNG Philippines. “Our collaboration with Team Manila for Outcast was also another great opportunity to showcase local artistic talent on an international platform.”
Catch Outcast every Saturdays at 8:55 PM beginning June 4, exclusively on FOX.
