Last night, March 19, was the final presentation of the Philippine International Pyromusical Competition 2016 which was held successively from February 13, every Saturday, 7:30 PM at the Seaside Boulevard, SM Mall of Asia, up until yesterday evening where the grand winners were proclaimed before the Philippine Platinum Fireworks team showcased their final exhibition for this year’s competition.
2nd place went to Polaris Fireworks from People’s Republic of China and 1st place goes to Steffes-ollig Feuerwerk from Germany. The grand winner of the Philippine International Pyromusical Competition 2016 is Pyrotex Fireworkx LTD from United Kingdom. I was able to take some decent shots of U.K.’s fireworks display in front of The Globe Circle, SM Mall of Asia to get a different vantage point during the second week of the Pyromusical Competition.
I was only able to shoot the Pyromusical event during the opening, second week, and final night. I missed the other presentations of the 6 participants, Atlas Pyrovision from USA, Royal Firework from the Netherlands, Steffes-ollig Feuerwerk, Royal Pyrotechnie from Canada, Skylighter Fireworkx from Australia, and Polaris Fireworks.
During the opening night, I was able to shoot Luso Pirotecnia from Portugal, Parente Fireworks from Italy against Pyrotex Fireworkx LTD on the second week, and Brezac Artefices from France, last night.
Aside from the mentioned teams, I also have photos of Platinum Fireworks, Inc.’s exhibition show from the first and last day presentation.
My camera settings varied from these separate occasions and I am glad I have friends like Ted Claudio of Wazzup.PH who gave great suggestions on shooting fireworks display. I set my shutter speed on Bulb (as per Ted’s recommendation) and aperture f/8-f/11.
I used my Nikon D3100 in all the shoots. Last night I was able to buy a shutter release cable and it shooting fireworks display has never been that easy. I bought a generic remote switch, MC-DC2 in Camera Haus for only PHP 395. I am now recommending this accessory in case you haven’t got one.
A sturdy tripod is also a must when shooting fireworks if you don’t want to get blurred photos. Mine is a Benro T800EX tripod. It’s not expensive. You can buy this tripod model in different camera stores.
During the one-hour break, Earth Hour was celebrated as audience and guests gathered at the SM By The Bay grounds.. Together with SM Supermalls (which hosted our VIP pass), we also participated as the world switches off lights for Earth Hour.
It was almost 11 PM when the Pyromusical Competition ended last night. Pop star Sarah Geronimo also did a one-song performance last night to cheer the audience before going home.
