The Philippine Volcanoes Rugby Team wins a victorious scorecard against UAE as they bring the Philippine flag to the 2013 Rugby World Cup Sevens in Moscow, Russia in June. The FILA ‘Pinas World Cup 2013 match was held at Rizal Memorial Stadium earlier this evening. The Philippine rugby team made a 24 goal score while UAE had 8 points to their credits. Philippine Volcanoes and United Arab Emirates are part of the HSBC Asian 5 Nations 2013 joined by 25 Asian Rugby Football Union teams contesting over 30 matches in eight countries – all in four thrilling months. The Philippine team earlier played against Hong Kong in a match held last May 4. Hong Kong defeated the Volcanoes 59-20.
This evening’s match sponsored by FILA, is the official apparel and jersey of Philippine Volcanoes with the Pinoy pride at stake through the efforts of HSBC, ARFU, A5N Organizing Team, and PRFU sponsors.
Today’s victory was a monumental for the Philippine Volcanoes as this was their first ever win since they joined the league. Volcanoes lost against Japan 0-121; Hong Kong defeated the Volcanoes 59-20; and against Korea, the Volcanoes were beaten 19-62.
FILA ‘Queen’ Cris Albert and her husband Butch was there in support of the Philippine team. Celebrity and socialite-philanthropist Tessa Prieto-Valdez was also there watching the game from the VIP seat.
A sudden electricity tripping suspense the crowd as the game was nearing the last 2-minute ending with a 19-8 score. The game finished a whole 80 minutes with the first half scoring of 12-8 in favor of the Philippine Volcanoes.
Pride truly burns deep as this athletic feat is a big first for the country – even deeper for FILA Philippines, who accompanies the Volcanoes to the prestigious competition as their official sponsor.
