Every day, a huge number of motorists pass along the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) and South Luzon Expressway (SLEX) highways to reach their destinations of either going to work or coming back home; or those who are on a business and vacation trips. And every long trip needs a toilet break.
Pilipinas Shell Petroleum Select Station is one of the popular stop-overs when it comes to toilet break and it is good to know that this giant company has made an effort to partner with Unilever Philippines through Domex Philippines 1 Million Clean Toilets campaign.
This move by Unilever, a joint project with UNICEF, aims to prevent diarrhea, respiratory ailments, and colds by simple hand-washing after going to the toilet. One of their objectives if for everyone to have clean toilets as well in public and private establishments.
“We at Domex believe that prompt action against diarrheal diseases, unclean toilets and unsanitary toilet practices can significantly decrease health risks and improve lives,” said Jay Go, Marketing Director for Unilever Home Care, noting that in the Philippines, more than 2,000 children under five die annually from diarrhea as a result of germ-infested toilets that contaminate water resources. Pilipinas Shell joined this campaign and 11 Select Shell Stations along NLEX and SLEX will experience Domex clean-ups beginning today, April 10, much in time for the observance of Holy Week where a lot of motorists will pass by these major highways.
“We are doing this to create awareness in hygiene,” said Pilipinas Shell Petroleum Vice President for Retail, Anthony Lawrence Yam.
In exchange, Domex Philippines will donate 6 months supply, equivalent to 5,000 Domex bottled products to 11 Select Shell Stations to spread the need to have clean toilets.
In line with this project, Unilever encourages netizens to do their own share by joining and be one of the million to pledge for clean toilets and fight against poor sanitation. For every pledge, Unilever will donate Php 5 to UNICEF’s Sanitation Program.

And like what our good friend radio disc jockey, event host and health fitness advocate Gelli Victor mentioned during the event, “We all deserve clean toilets!”
