Ice hockey is a sport primarily dominated and associated with brawly men and you would not regularly see women bashing opponents inside the ice skating rink. But there are.
When we watched the opening ceremony of the 3rd Philippine Ice skating Tournament, we were surprised, along with the crowd, to see a female goalkeeper playing for Team Ramas from Thailand.
We became more curious about her when we were told that she was also a Filipina.
Jessica Cabili, import goalkeeper for Ramas, is also a member of the Philippine Women’s National Hockey Team.
“A friend of mine recommended me to play for Team Ramas and eventually I found a place with ice hockey, ” said Cabili who is also a figure skate champion.
Talk about girl power, huh!
There were 2 games during the opening ceremony. Team Pilipinas won over Team Thailand during the second playoffs.
The 3rd Philippine Ice Skating Tournament started on June 14 and ends on June 17, 2017 at the SM Skating, SM Megamall.
This is the Philippine Ice Hockey’s third season following successful hosting of the International Figure Skating Training Camp and the SEA challenge at the SM skating – Seaside City Cebu.
