“Rivermaya reunion happened while you were sleeping last night”
That was the catch phrase Roxanne Nebres, concert photographer, posted on her Facebook page, accompanying a video of the song “Himala” performed by no-less than the original members of the 90s rising Pinoy Rock era band, Rivermaya. Perf De Castro, Nathan Azarcon, Mark Escueta, and Rico Blanco reunited last night at 19 East of what could be a sign for an upcoming reunion in the future.
Bamboo Manalac (also known as Bamboo), lead singer of Rivermaya first generation, was invited but unfortunately he was in the US when this all happened.
The reunion of sorts was unplanned. “Perf came back home to the Philippines to do a couple of shows and he just pushed his luck by shooting the guys a message,” wrote Roxanne on her page. “Kung pwede, ok. Kung hindi, ok lang din. Eh swerteng pwede yung tatlo,” (If they’re available, okay. If not, it’s also okay. Fortunately, the three of them accepted the invitation), Perf reportedly responded when asked how he made his former band-mates to join him for that rare occasion.
Fans and supporters rejoiced and are now hopeful that someday, the original Rivermaya members will stage a possible reunion concert.
Rivermaya’s anthem song “214” was also performed by the group with Rico on vocals.
Nebres is a concert photographer, who started as Bamboo’s Official Concert Photographer in 2008, according to her About page.
