Targeting to reach 100 partners within the year, SafeZone, a first step to the free side of the Internet, partners with the biggest digital brands in the Philippines that will let customers discover and access mobile apps and sites at no data cost. SafeZone is a free app downloadable initially available on Google Play Store with list of partner apps and sites that customers can access without additional data charges.
SafeZone is a brainchild of Voyager Innovations, Inc., the digital unit of Philippine Long Distance Telecommunications (PLDT) Group and was officially launched yesterday, February 26, Thursday, at the Makati Shangri-La Hotel attended by the country’s biggest names in digital brands like Philippine Airlines, BPI, Agoda, Inquirer, Skyscanner, ZALORA, Carmudi, Lamudi, SPINNR, GameX, Babble Messenger, Eat Bulaga, Pinoy Hoops, Interaksyon, Takatack, and among others.
“SafeZone presents a real win-win scenario for businesss and consumers alike,” said Orlando B. Vea, President, Voyager Innovations, Inc.
“With growing smartphone penetration in the Philippines, more users are now accessing online services via their mobile phones. This presents an opportunity for businesses to reach out to their customers wherever they are through their smartphones, and be closer to the than ever before,” said Benjie Fernandez, Chief Operating Officer, Voyager.
When asked if this app is telco-based, Voyager quickly replied that it is not. Any customers using different telco providers can access SafeZone. However, the exclusive SafeZone Social free service is available only for Smart subscribers nationwide. Subscribers get free access on SmartNet, Facebook Lite, Twitter Lite, Instagram Lite, and all the digital brands partnered with SafeZone.

Once in SafeZone, users will have to switch “Load Protect” ON to ensure they do not get charged for accessing other mobile apps and sites that are not part of SafeZone.
When Load Protect is turned ON, users will not be charged the standard Php 5 for 15 minutes of usage when they access SafeZone’s partner apps and sites. When users proceed to a site that is not part of SafeZone, they will be redirected to a landing page where they have the option to continue surfing by subscribing to a data package.
This service will be coming soon to Sun Cellular subscribers.
