SAMSUNG UNVEILS THE NEXT GALAXY: SAMSUNG GALAXY S7 AND S7 EDGE

Unpacking The Next Galaxy with Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge

Local Unpacking

Never liked the S6 Edge before (I own a Samsung Galaxy S6), but this time around, until I saw the first batch of the global unpacking of the latest devices from Samsung, I’m beginning to appreciate the S7 Edge.

Together with Samsung Galaxy S7, S7 Edge gave a promising innovation in the era of mobile technology. The Global and Local Unpacking also showcased the release of Samsung Gear VR and Samsung Gear S2 series.

In the Philippines, the Local Unpacking was held at the prestigious Samsung Hall in SM Aura, Taguig City, a few hours after the Global Unpacking in Barcelona, Spain.

Samsung Electronics Philippines revealed the game-changing Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge as well as unveiled the much talked-about and highly anticipated Gear VR virtual relaity headset, and gave a sneak peek of the premium Gear S2 Classic in platinum and rose gold finish, giving the guetss a triple treat of the expanded Samsung Galaxy ecosystem. The event was held exclusively for the Philippine media, as well as loyal Samsung users and fans who witnessed how the brand has once again drove innovations that defy expectations with its new flagship mobile devices.

Celebrities Solenn Huessaff, Erwan Huessaff, and DJ Gino Quillamor were presented as the faces of the Samsung Galaxy 2& and S7 Edge, Gear VR, and Gear S2.

More than a smartphone, the Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge defy previously held notions of mobile phone limitations, carrying the legacy of Samsung’s premium mobile experience with its industry-leading features.

IP68 Water and Dust Resistant

Exceedingly durable and designed to function even in unfavorable conditions, the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge are cap-less, water and dust resistant with an IP68 certification to boot, ensuring that it could survive going wet in the rain or being accidentally dropped into the pool (or toilet), withstanding being submerged in 1.5 meters of water for 30 minutes. It is also dust-tight, meaning it is safe from the ingress of solid foreign objects like sand, dust, or soil. Users can now be worry-free from spills, dust, or accidental drops in water.

I had to prove it myself that I went to the display booth and drop test the Galaxy S7 on the aquarium filled with tank water to see how the IP68 Water and Dust resistant work wonder for the Samsung Galaxy flagship smartphones. I am convinced.

DSLR-like Dual Pixel Camera

Setting hew benchmarks for smartphone photography, Samsung outdid itself with the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge’s Dual Pixel camera that uses dual photodiode technology, originally used in professional DSLR cameras and has now been adopted for the very first time in smartphones. This technology enables even faster Auto Focus for crisp, strikingly clear pictures. This makes the new devices 4x faster versus the Galaxy S6, as explained by Ivan Pua, Smartphone Category Head, IT & Mobile Business, Samsung Philippines, during the Local Unpacking event. Added to this is a front camera with brighter f/1.7 lens capable of turning the screen as a flash that allows selfies to be taken even in low-light conditions.

Ultimate Performance

True to the Samsung legacy of superior performance, the Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge have been designed to give users a worry-free expereince, with a base memory of 32GB expandable up to 200GB so that precious memories on videos and photos no longer have to be deleted.

To support this amazing storage capacity, the Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge comes with increased battery capacity. The Galaxy S7 sports a 3000mAh battery while the Galaxy S7 Edge has a 3600mAh battery. Both support microUSB Ultra Fast Charging (wired), as well as built-in wireless charging, with even faster charging speed than the previous Galaxy S6 smartphones. The Always-On feature is the ‘in’ thing on smartphones this 2016 which the Samsung adapted for the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge. Just don’t make it drain the battery, it’s cool.

Refined Design with Purpose

Building on Samsung’s re-imagined design philosophy introduced in the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge, the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge’s elegant yet functional design features a streamlined body of glass and metal finish, with ergonomic curves to easily fit the user’s grip. The Galaxy S7 features a 5.1″ Super AMOLED Quad HD display while the Galaxy S7 Edge features a bigger 5.5″ dual-edge display both purposefully designed to enhance user’s viewing experience.

Expanded Galaxy Ecosystem

Taking the smartphone experience to an entirely new dimension, the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge prove to be more than a phone as it allows users to explore more through the Samsung Galaxy Ecosystem by being a gateway to a network of devices and experiences.

Samsung Gear VR

The Samsung Gear VR, which is also compatible with the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge, S6 and S6 Edge, S6 Edge+, and Note5, is the first consumerized Virtual Reality headset making it accessible to more premium Samsung smartphone users. Compared to other VR headsets, the Gear VR is lightweight and offers more cushioning that provide comfort to users. It also has an adjustable head straps to keep the headset secure and firm.

Mark Zuckerberg, Founder, Facebook, appeared in front of the live audience of the Samsung Galaxy Unpacked 2016 at the MWC 2016 which was shown during the Local Unpacking earlier. “Facebook is investing so much on virtual reality,” said Zuckerberg as he introduced the Gear VR at the Barcelona audience.

The Gear VR also promises a 360-degree, out-of-this-world, immersive viewing and gaming experience.

Gear S2

Aside from the Gear VR, Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge can also seamlessly connect with the Gear S2 watch, the wearable of choice of fitness and fashion enthusiasts alike, offering both connectivity and convenience for those who are challenged by the need to carry their smartphones everywhere.

First Impressions

I was excited to see this two phones on my bare hands so when they gave the signal for us to experience the devices, I hurriedly went to the display area and have myself a feel of the new Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge smartphones.

I really love the designs of the new Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge. I even compared my Galaxy S6 to the Galaxy S7. Although there are no or little difference between the two, I can feel and sense that the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge will be on the top choices for those who are buying their smartphones this 2016.

It’s gonna be an interesting battle this Q1 and Q2 for international and local manufacturing smartphone brands. I am also eyeing at the LG G5 as the would-be strong contender on this smartphone battle.

Pricing and Availability

The Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge will be officially available on march 19, 2016 with the price at PHP 34,990 (S7) and PHP 39,990 (S7 Edge).

It’s too cliche and over-used statement but after seeing and touching the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge up close, I’ll say this anyway, “Shut up and take my money!”
