It was an early call time in the morning when we were invited to witness the grand unveiling of the new Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8+ at the posh City Of Dreams in Manila. After getting off a Grab sedan ride, we hurriedly went to the Ballroom area where the #UnboxYourPhone was set to happen.
Armed with our Samsung Galaxy S7, we took photos and videos of the program where an exciting introduction of the Galaxy S8 and S8+ presented by Samsung Electronics Philippines executive took place before the officially unveiling of the new smartphone. The unpacking event in Manila was in connection with the “Unpacked 2017” launch of Samsung’s newest flagship smartphone in New York.
Designed with an almost bezel-less edge-to-edge curved screen glass panel, the new Samsung Galaxy S8 now has a digital home button and a slew of important features that could kill rival smartphones under the premium market segment. This is probably the best smartphone to buy with everyone’s money’s worth. With it’s local pricing, it will be a no surprise that it’s going to be, literally, ‘breaking the bank’ for Samsung followers and for those planning of switching their smartphone brand. The Galaxy S8 will be on sale for P39,990 and the S8+ at P45,990.
Pre-ordering of the Galaxy S8 and S8+ starts on April 17 to 29 in official Samsung experience store, Lazada online, Smart Communications, and Globe Telecom. The official launch in the country will be on April 20 and the Blue Carpet (for Samsung VIPs) event will happen on April 30 before the nationwide retail release on May 5, 2017.
Let’s get down to business.
Power of Infinity Display
Every Samsung products is driven by the company’s ingrained predisposition to remove everyday barriers and making sure of enhancing the user’s way of living to a seamless experience. The Galaxy S8 and S8+ proudly present the Infinity Display.
The Infinity Display fuses revolutionary aesthetic and advanced technology to give users a functional design at its fullest. It boasts of an incredible end-to-end screen that spills over the phone’s sides, forming a completely smooth, continuous surface with no bumps or angles. The Infinity Display comes in 5.8-inch on the Galaxy S8 and 6.2-inch on the Galaxy S8+.
Photos become more than just photos with the Galaxy S8 and S8+. While the other smartphone brands jumped on the dual-lens cameras, the Galaxy S8 and S8+ bear an irreplaceable 12MP Dual Pixel rear and 8MP front cameras.
The Galaxy S8 and S8+ provide heightened security and privacy through various highly advanced biometric authentication measures like the Iris Scanner, the new Face Recognition, and the Fingerprint Scanner whose button can now be found at the back, beside the rear camera. The Galaxy S8 and S8+ also come with a Secure Folder, a separated folder that adds an extra layer of authentication to keep your select private and personal information safe.
First are the batteries. Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8+ sport a battery capacities at 3,000mAh and 3,500mAh, respectively. To ensure optimized power consumption, Samsung introduces a powerful innovation with its new flagships. The Galaxy S8 and S8+ have the world’s first 10nm mobile processor that allows for a seamless, interruption-free experience, but less battery consumption.
Samsung developed the IP68 craftsmanship to be cap-less, water and dust resistant technology. These phones can be submerged in 1.5 meters of water for 30 minutes. With the IP68 in place, users can now be worry-free from spills, dust, or accidental drops in water.
The Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8+, running on Android 7.0 Nougat, now sport a storage of 64GB, twice that of its predecessor’s, and expandable up to 256GB.
Who is Bixby? Bixby is, somehow, Samsung’s answer to Siri and the brand’s first intelligent assistant. Bixby Visual changes the way users search by simply using the camera. It categorizes an image into the following categories: text, images, shopping, QR code, location, and wines. From its recognition, Bixby can give you date about a certain place or icon, extract text from image to a word file, translate text into 52 languages, and assist you in shopping.
On the other hand, Bixby Voice lets the user do work with less typing. Users can ask Bixby to segregate photos from the album, edit photos, send ext messages to different contacts, and so much more.
Opening New Worlds
The Galaxy S8 and S8+ now come with accessories that will add up to Samsung’s user experience. These are the Samsung DeX, Gear 360, and Gear VR.
