Together with my daughter and her nanny, I attended the media launch of the SM Cinema Family Movie Day last July 2. I just love it when work and leisure come together and I get to spend at least half of the weekend doing both just to be with them, especially somewhere very close to home (venue was SM Southmall, which is only a 10-minutes trike ride away).
We were one of those early bird guests and the program hasn’t started yet, hence we decided to go around the event area to see how my mini me (who easily gets bored) can keep herself busy while waiting for the viewing activity to take place later in the afternoon. Good thing there were several art and play stations and a photobooth courtesy of event sponsors.
In addition, all guests got free food and drinks and giveaways too!
The program was hosted by model/writer Marylaine Viernes (who I haven’t seen in a while since our audition/VTR days together) with the special appearance of Pilipinas Got Talent Season 1 Grand Finalist Ruther Urquia and his puppets, whose sense of humor and comic timing make a killer combination not to be ignored. There were also games for families onstage where various prizes were given away, plus a photo opportunity with cute and playful mascot Dr. Tempra afterwards.
When it was time to watch the movie of the month (Pinocchio), we proceeded to Cinema 5 at the mall’s top floor. Of course, the experience wouldn’t be complete without popcorn and drinks right? Free chow once again!
There was even a mini play area outside Cinema 5 for that after-movie bonding time. It was really nice to see a different kind of Pinocchio movie this time, something that involves more live action than animation.
In a nutshell, it was awesome! My family and I had a blast…no complaints 👍👍 Thanks to SM Cinema and generous sponsors such as Faber Castell, Pixar, Pancake House, PrintSocial and Nivea Men.
From this month ’till December 2016, every family of 4 can take time off and enjoy a fun and memorable Family Movie Day at the nearest SM Cinema. It’s actually a buy 2 get 2 free tickets (parents pay and kids can watch for free), but in reality, it just doesn’t stop at free movie tickets. A Family Movie Day kit purchase also has these perks: a free bowling game, free skating pass good for an hour, Blink subscription valid for one month and treats from brand affiliates (like its launch event sponsors Pancake House and Nivea Men).
This is old-school family bonding at its finest and it’s all about bringing it back for the new, “tech-savvy” generation to know first-hand the pure goodness of simple joys while growing up. It reminds me of those Saturdays and Sundays that my parents would bring me to a cinema then eat lunch or dinner in a nearby restaurant — a much-needed clean break from my family computer and Game-N-Watch pastime (I’m slowly revealing the age group I belong to, so I’ll stop the nostalgia part right here). 😂
Anyway, kiddie flicks to choose from for the Family Movie Day kit are Sammy: Escape from Paradise on August 20-21, Ultraman Ginga on September 10-11, Oops Noah is Gone on October 15-16, Dino Time on November 19-20, and either Snow Queen 3 or A.R.C.H.I.E on December 3-4 (Pinocchio was the featured film during the initial run – July 2-3). Start booking your tickets today via www.smcinema.com or this hotline: 470-222.
