SM City Sta. Mesa joins Earth Hour 2013 when it lit off its light last March 23, Saturday evening. From 8:30 pm – 9:30 pm, lights were turned off in the celebration of Earth Hour, a global event organized by the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF). Simultaneously, SM Supermalls all over the country joined the annual campaign to help save the environment by turning off non-essential lights for one hour to raise awareness about the need to take action on climate change.
Earth Hour started in 2007 and held towards the end of March annually.
SM City Sta. Mesa and representative of the local government of Quezon City pushed the symbolical Earth Hour button to signal the start of one hour awareness.
A mini-fashion show that represented environment awareness followed after the lights turned off, which was held at the upper ground floor lobby of the mall. Fire dancers flared up to the beat while candles were lighted in front of the main entrance to symbolize Earth Hour.
Mall goers were also encouraged to write their pledge of support to the campaign through the I WILL IF YOU WILL commitment board at the upper ground floor.
SM Mall of Asia continues to be the main event venue for Earth Hour.
