Late last year, this website participated in the project of SM Prime Holdings, Inc., through SM Committee on Environment, called Let’s Plant 50,000 Trees in Baguio City in taking steps to start environmental awareness in the region. This year, SM Supermalls launches Grow A Million Trees coinciding the worldwide celebration of Earth Day 2013.
SM Supermalls and its affiliates remained committed to operating an environmentally sound ways to active campaigns to support sustainable lifestyles and promote different environmental programs for the community such as the Grow A Million Trees. “In line with this effort, SM Supermalls has been committed to the goal of reforesting the country over the years,” according to Miguel CuUnjieng, Sustainability Manager, SM Supermalls during the launch of Grow A Million Trees at The Block, SM North EDSA.
“For years, the SM Group of companies has been launching individual projects on tree growing and other environmental activities. It was only recently that we decided to come together and solidly declare our commitment to the environment as one SM,” told by Joey Mendoza, president of SM Supermarket during the event.
“To date, the entire SM Group of Companies and Affiliates have already reached a third of the goal since 2009. Together, we have successfully planted almost 300,000 trees. And just like how all SM groups have come together towards a common goal, we ask your help, to join us in making the dream of a million trees a reality.”
The launch of Grow A Million Trees was attended and with the acknowledged presence of DENR Asst. Secretary Marcial D. Amaro, Jr., SM Foundation’s AVP Ms. Cristie Angeles, and the rest of the affiliates: SM Land, SM Development, Costa De Hamilo, Inc., and Ace Hardware.
