Who doesn’t want to have free internet access the whole day or best, unlimited data that’s good enough for 24/7 web browsing, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, or tons of movie downloads? We bet that when you heard that SMART announced their Free Internet promo, you started to give a round of applause to MVP, started to tweet about it, and pass around the good news to your friends. It was like the greatest thing that happened in a country where internet connection speed barely keeps up with the Southeast Asian neighbors.
But alas, SMART subscribers jumped into the bandwagon and embraced the Free Internet promo but as soon they’ve heard the 30mb data cap, prepaid subscribers got confused while the loyal postpaid customers rejected the on-going hullabaloo as it poses threat with their internet connectivity capacity once the prepaid market take a boost of this promo.
Hours later and as an answer to SMART’s trending news of the day, Globe immediately released the announcement of the return of Free FB promo. Globe did not waste any single moment and tried to hug the limelight with SMART, which is gaining fast popularity in the local news and social media.
Then the Black Ops issue came out as SMART fanatics denounced Twitter users who are like bots, mess around the micro-site with tweets bashing SMART’s latest promo using hashtags like #SmartFreeInternet and #LieMore which is an obvious attack on SMART’s Live More campaign.
This came to speculations from Twitter users that a rival telco is behind to smear SMART’s move of giving their subscribers free internet access for two (2) months, which of course were denied by the other camp.
*Just got a Twitter update from @iamMVP and he just tweeted: “Even better – free internet now open to ALL prepaid, postpaid & broadband subs of Smart, TNT & Sun
#SmartFREEInternet for ALL @SmartCares” and “TY for overwhelming response to #SmartFREEInternet. Our early Christmas gift to our loyal & new subs-offer now extended to Jan 5 @SmartCares“.
The obvious reality here is that these telcos are both trying to win their subscribers’ attentions by announcing ear-candy promos that will solidify loyalty to the brand.
Globe has started today its Free Facebook and their loyal postpaid and prepaid subscribers will enjoy this promo that will last until Nov. 24, 2014.
Are these moves to reckon with? In a nutshell, let’s just enjoy these promos and take advantage of it as it expires come two (2) months or so.
