Sofitel Philippine Plaza Manila celebrates Year of the Rooster with variants of Chinese cuisine

 

To celebrate the Year of the Rooster, which promises prosperity, happiness, and opportunities, Sofitel Philippine Plaza Manila is having a gastronomic journey inspiring fortune and abundance featuring three variations  of Chinese cuisine: Cantonese, Hakka, and Sze Chuan. This exciting Chinese New Year menu will be available from January 25 to 29, 2017 for the whole family to enjoy.

Abundance: Celebrating the Year of the Rooster

“The Year of the Rooster is all about Chinese concept of Bian Nian Hao He meaning the perfect time for reunions to celebrate love for all season, encouraging harmony and lifelong happiness. I have prepared a big feast for families to share as they welcome prosperity, happiness, and good fortune into their lives,” shares Chef Maichael Tai.

The featured menu showcase recipes from the Canton and Sze Chuan province and select dishes from Taiwan.

Cantonese

Cantonese dishes are known  for its freshness and for highlighting the natural taste of its ingredients. Featured dishes for the Cantonese cuisine include Abalone, which is believed to bring good fortune and wealth.  The Chinese name of abalone stands for assurance and surplus hence eating them translates to an abundance of wealth.

The Chinese believe that eating the whole fish with the head and tail intact symbolizes a year’s beginning all the way to its end. The Chinese word for fish also sounds similar to the word for abundance.

Prawns are one of the important Chinese festive seafood dishes in Cantonese, the pronunciation of the word prawn is similar to the sound of laughter representing a happy life filled with laughter.

Hakka

Hakka cuisine is the definition of gastronomic simplicity yet inspires the finest flavors. The Hakka selection features dishes including Hakka style pork knuckles, braised pork belly with preserved vegetables, Hakka deep-fried pork organ, Hakka style salt and baked chicken, treasure fried rice in lotus leaf, and the basin dish called Poon choi.

Sze Chuan

Sze Chuan dishes are known for bold and spicy flavors headlined by the use of garlic, chili peppers, and famous Sze Chuan pepper. The Sze Chuan cuisine features Chang qing la ji chicken, cumin lamb, home-made noodle (Zha jang mian), beef (rou ja mo) Chinese hamburger, braised sea cucumber in Sze Chuan sauce, and King pao squid with cashew nuts.

La Abondance Collection by Albert Andrada

On the 25th of January 2017, Sofitel Philippine Plaza Manila presents an elegant and nostalgic fashion show by international and multi-awarded fashion designer Albert Andrada. The glamour presentation will be held at Spiral with a showcase of haute couture gowns of luxury and elegance.
