Yup! The sons of OPM icons are out to prove themselves that they are true-blooded pedigree of their moms and dad who are established recording artists in their own fields. And the sons enter the music scene as one rock band called GENERATION. Joe and Mike are sons of popular singer/balladeer/composer Jose Mari Chan; Ige Gallardo is the son of renowned singer Celeste Legaspi; and Kowboy Santos is the son of Philippine rock icon, Sampaguita. Joe and Mike, Ige and Kowboy formed GENERATION in 2008 sharing passion for classic rock music. Joe plays bass guitar, Mike plays keyboard, Ige plays rhythm guitar, and Kowboy is the band’s vocalist and plays killer lead guitar. Drums on the album tracks are played by sessionist artists.
We saw them last night at the Hard Rock Cafe in Makati to debut their official launch as GENERATION and we’ve got the first peek at their music videos “Love Is Killing Me” and “Walking A Fine Line“. The self-titled album is released through Star Records and is now available nationwide in record bars for Php 250. The 12-tracks CD album can also be downloaded via iTunes, Amazon.com, Mymusicstore.com.ph, and Starmusic.ph.
Needless to say, these bunch of guys are already impressive when you think of their bloodlines but when you see them perform and hear their music more, you’ll definitely believe in their talents. “We remain true to our craft,” said Joe when the band were asked if they are pressured to be the sons of music icons in the Philippines.
We kinda like the song “Love Is Killing Me” and it reminded us of Jimi Hendrix, The Doors, and The Breed. It is a classic rock and one would easily get to sing along on the chorus line. The song has a matching music video on its sleeve. The song was good but we guess, there could be much more to deliver when it comes to applying it on a music video. The song rockss hard but when you see the video, it’s kinda like tamed. Maybe we just want Kowboy and the rest of the band slamming and headbanging while they’re playing. Mike could just played while standing instead of sitting down in front of his keyboards. That’s just our comment on “Love Is Killing Me” music video. But in totality, that song rocks!
Oh by the way, the band started performing in various gigs, playing classics from The Beatles, Doobie Brothers, Cars, among others. So now you’re already getting the idea of how GENERATION sounds like.
