Following the successful port call of SuperStar Gemini, Asia Pacific’s leading cruise line Star Cruises made again Manila as one of its luxurious vessels as the 41,309-ton SuperStar Aquarius docked at Pier 4 of the Manila North Harbour last November 2, 2013.
The 6D5N charter cruise departed from Hong Kong last October 31, sailed to Boracay Island after its call to Manila and finally disembark in Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia.
Among those who attended the port call and send-off were Manila Tourism and Cultural Affairs Bureau Director Flordeliza Villaseñor; Michael Hackman Senior, Vice President at Star Cruises; Philippine Ports Authority Ms. Clarissa S. Ignacio, Manager at Manila North Harbor; Michael Romero, chair of the Manila North Harbour Port, Inc.; Ma. Corazon Jorda-Apo, Department of Tourism Market Development Group Director; Capt. Carl J. Nilermark, SuperStar Aquarius; SuperStar Aquarius Hotel Manager Mr. Michael Seet ; Chief Executive Officer of Manila North Harbor Port Mr. Richard D. Barclay; and Chief Operating Officer Stephen James Reilly, Resorts World Manila.
The cruise ship’s passengers toured Manila and experienced the many attractions the city has to offer. This opportunity aims to spur the development of cruise tourism in the Philippines. The short excursion included stops at heritage sites in Intramuros, sightseeing along the famous Roxas Boulevard, and trip to Resorts World Manila, the country’s world-class – one stop, non-stop entertainment and leisure hub. Like Star Cruises, Resorts World Manila is another Genting Hong Kong integrated resort property many consider as a cruise ship on land with its many offerings to locals and tourists alike.
Genting Hong Kong Limited is a leading global leisure, entertainment and hospitality enterprise, with core competence in both land and sea-based businesses such as Star Cruises, Norweigan Cruise Line, and Resorts World Manila.
Meanwhile, the trades and vessels plying to the roots of Manila from Spain started in the 16th century, according to Mr. Romero. Manila North Harbour Port officially opened in the 1900s.
Before Ms. Jardo-Apo received a model crystal ship from Mr. Hackman, she mentioned that these port calls certainly create greater awareness of the Philippines as a cruise destination.
