We sat down one evening in a hang-out joint , jam-packed with customers that we presumed were all frequent of the place located at the strip of San Miguel By The Bay, near the SM Mall of Asia Ferris Wheel – yeah that’s how they’ll point you their directions, and probably Manila’s coolest joint today where bands perform seven nights a week, playing one type of music that never gets old.
The Roadhouse Manila Bay is where Blues and Booze and Bikers are all in one place, sharing the limelight every night to entertain guests with live music from country blues, Chicago blues, blues rock, acoustic blues – name it they all have it calling every gig “Blues Night.”
The Roadhouse Manila Bay is a bigger version of its branch in Macau owned by Ciaran Carruthers, whose passion in music, bikes, and booze led him to this business. More so, his wife, daughter, and son also shares his passion in music. The Roadhouse Manila Bay just turned one year old last December 2012.
The 1st Anniversary Party
To celebrate its first year in existence, many were invited to join the occasion which also took the opportunity to introduce and launch Pinoy Blues Jam CD, a compilation of rockin’ rhythm and blues music, surprisingly produced by a long-time friend, Gerry and Mae Diwa, and Ciaran himself, called Roadhouse Rekords. The compilation features the best rocking performances of Dr. Crowley, Bleu Rascals, 69 Proof, Ian Lofamia Band, Sangre Blues Revival, Tarantulas, and one of our favorite blues rock band, Plug.
Each of the band played their songs as they showcased the compilation album which can be purchased at The Roadhouse Manila Bay for Php 500.00. Pinoy Blues Jam has 18 songs on the list. A good buy for that one. The album’s gonna be available in select music stores in Metro Manila or if you can’t wait, try to digitally download via iTunes and Amazon.
Inside The Roadhouse Manila Bay
It’s evident that Ciaran, an Irishman based in Macau but spends most of his time in Manila – his wife and kids stays in Australia, loves great music that The Roadhouse Manila Bay is adorned with photos of different icons and legendary musicians hanging on the bar’s brick walls plus collector items and memorabilia like a glass stand of motorcycle gran prix helmet, vintage classic rock posters, and electric guitars used by Eric Clapton and Jimmy Page.
Aside from the eye-popping displays, The Roadhouse Manila Bay offers great foods like burgers and pizza, and the best Crispy Pata in town, as they proudly say. Yup, the burgers’ damn good that night and they also made us try Tiger Lager beer. Funny though, that beer’s not part of their menu.
