In a timely story about brutal and random gun shooting incidents happening here and abroad, Tom Cruise’s Jack Reacher premieres in TriNoma Mall, a new movie based on One-Shot, the ninth in the series of Reacher novels by author Lee Child.
A suspense-crime story with cunning mysteries unfolding
The movie from its trailer is already quite interesting which brings a hanging question “Who is Jack Reacher?” A suspense-crime story with cunning mysteries unfolding as the protagonist searches for the truth behind the random shooting by a sharp-shooting assassin who also is ex-military, a trained sniper, which leaves five people dead. Five people who have never met each other and no clear motives as to why they were shot. When caught by the authorities, suspect summoned Jack Reacher. This baffled the police investigator, district attorney, and the suspect’s defense lawyer.
Jack Reacher’s character more realistic
If you’re looking for a Mission Impossible Tom Cruise’s breath-taking stunts, you’ll be disappointed. Don’t worry, you’re not alone. We also thought it’s another movie in the tradition of MI but upon seeing it earlier tonight at TriNoma Cinema 1 for its premiere screening, it wasn’t. It’s very different from the MI franchise and we are amused by it. Tom’s maybe in his usual heroic role and always the ladies man, injects crime scene investigation leads that made the Jack Reacher’s character more realistic. As Reacher, a fictional character, he displays skills of man-to-man combat in most of the scenes.
The story was a little bit narrative in the earliest part of the movie and it only got intense when Jack was being framed up to stop him and defense attorney Helen Rodin (Rosamund Pike) from unmasking the truth behind the random killing. Jack has to catch the mastermind behind this killing before they get into him.
Based on the novel, Jack is a trained and former United States Army Military Police major and throughout the novels, Reacher has shown great skill in the use of various types of firearms. In the film, Jack displayed his skill at fighting, enhanced by in-depth technical and military knowledge; experience and skills from various martial arts.
Rosamund Pike played very well in the film as the aggressive and smart defense lawyer who found herself having the hots for Jack. Oh yeah, Rosamund’s definitely a hot chick for that matter. Rosamund was a Bond girl Miranda Frost in Die Another Day and as Kate Sumner in Johnny English Reborn. She and Tom looks quite good as a pair on the big screen. And yes, you’ll also find yourself laughing in some of the punchlines from the movie. There are.
About the author
Author Lee Child comments, “When I considered the question of Reacher’s origins, looking back now …He’s a very legendary, myth-based character—the mysterious stranger, the noble loner—the ‘knight errant’… the guy who’s relatively high-principled, but for some reason is banished to wander the land and do good deeds.”
“In my opinion he is a metaphor for what we all secretly desire, which is justice. And that’s the big appeal of Reacher, both for men and women. Women especially, I think, are very offended by injustice. And here is Reacher, who will find a situation that’s wrong and he will set it right. He will do whatever it takes, with no qualms whatsoever. . .And sure, there’s a lot of violence … But I think secretly, deep down, we want that. We want to see things set right, and we want to see bad guys punished,” Child says.
What the filmmaker says
In filmmaker Christopher McQuarrie, it became a case of one-stop shopping. Director McQuarrie had to get much of the narrative out of his head without losing Reacher’s unique worldview. “It was about finding an interesting way to visualize his unique perspective so that it wasn’t always Reacher telling you exactly what he was thinking.”
In the tradition of such classic thrillers of the 1970s as “Bullitt” and The French Connection, “Jack Reacher” boasts a stunning car chase sequence through the downtown streets and alleys of Pittsburgh, where the story takes place.
Jack Reacher stars Tom Cruise, Rosamund Pike, Robert Duvall, Richard Jenkins and Werner Herzog. Produced by Tom Cruise, Don Granger, Paula Wagner and Gary Levinsohn.
