Veritcal Horizon Live in Manila, an Epic Summer concert from Resorts World Manila, was the 3rd time for this American alternative rock band composed of Matt Scannell, lead vocals, lead guitar (1990–present), Ron LaVella, drums (2009–present), Donovan White, guitar (2012-present), and Jeffrey Jarvis, bass (2012-present). Based on the band’s line-up, Vertical Horizon had gone past through changing of members.
Vertical Horizon dished out close to a dozen of past and new songs that delighted their fans. In between, Matt shared some background stories of their songs. He also shared that hey had halo-halo, ox tail soup (we bet that was kare-kare), crispy pork knuckles (crispy pata) for dinner, before coming up on stage last night. “Man, the crispy pork knuckle just don’t stand a chance. It was so tasty,” said Matt. “I don’t think I can make a good halo-halo back in Boston or New York just the way you (Filipinos) do it,” he added more. “That, I guess we need more Philippine journeys.” And the crowd screamed in delight.
The concert seemed like the band were jamming in front of their fans.
They dedicated the song ‘Forever‘ for a friend who recently passed away and to the victims of typhoon Yolanda. Vertical Horizon heard the typhoon as it happens while they were in the States and their hearts go out for the Philippines, ‘Forever‘ was followed by ‘Give You Back‘ and ‘We Are‘.
‘Best I Ever Had‘ and ‘Everything You Want‘ was played at the end of the concert. And just before the crowd would have exited Newport Performing Arts Theater, Matt and his band-mates went back on stage to give the night away with their last (encore) song ‘You’re A God’.
Thanks to Resorts World Manila for making this happen. An #EpicSummer indeed to end the summer wave. And yes, the best part of this concert was when the crowd sang along to Vertical Horizon’s ‘You’re A God‘. Just epic! And they promised to be back in Manila.
