The Philippine premiere of Award-winning director Michael Hirst‘s VIKINGS will begin on September 29, 10 PM and we are all invited to this epic adventures of the Norse people and warriors on HISTORY channel.
The most ambitious series yet – a US $40 million production that features an immersive view of one of history’s most gripping tales.
VIKINGS follows the adventures of Ragnar Lothbrok, played by Travis Fimmel, a curious, compelling man who is looking to break through barriers and discover new worlds to conquer. He led a band of warriors in search for treasures and delve into how the Vikings – the last pagans – worshiped ancient gods like Odin, Thor, Freya and Loki. Ragnar claims to be a direct descendant of the Norse god Odin, who, as well as being the god of warriors slain in battle, is also the god of curiosity.
The first episode RITES OF PASSAGE, premiering this Sunday at 10 PM, begins in 8th century Scandinavia where Ragnar is a farmer and warrior who dreams of finding riches by bucking the tradition of raiding to the east. Ragnar has been working on a secret project that will turn the Viking world on its head. But first, Ragnar must convince the leader of his community, the powerful Earl Haraldson, played by Gabriel Byrne, who is none too happy to hare in the renown that this journey could bring to Ragnar if it’s successful.
Katheryn Winnick plays Ragnar’s wife Lagertha, a respected warrior in her own right; Clive Standen, as Ragnar’s brother Rollo; Jessalyn Gilsig, Earl Haraldson’s wife Siggy; George Blagden, as monk Athelstan; and Gustaf Skarsgard, Ragnar’s jester friend Floki.
VIKINGS is a 9-part series created by Michael Hirst. Hirst is known as head writer, creator, and executive producer of drama series The Tudors and co-producer of hit series Camelot. VIKINGS will begin airing this Sunday, Sept. 29 at 10 PM on HISTORY.
