Quite few or the solid Captain America fans will be the only ones who will know who is Agent 13 that the Cap speaks of in Winter Soldier as his ‘neighbor.’
This ‘neighbor’ caught our attention when she first appeared on the 3D screen while we watch the regular run of Captain America: The Winter Soldier at the SM Cinema of SM City Marilao. In the movie, the ‘neighbor’ turned out to be Agent 13 of S.H.I.E.L.D. who was assigned by Nick Fury to keep an eye on Steve Rogers and his apartment.
Unfortunately, the meet-up between Steve and Agent 13 in the Captain America sequel was quite a brief with a hint of Steve flirting the lovely ‘neighbor’ before he enters his apartment where Fury took asylum because the S.H.I.E.L.D. Director was being hunted down by the S.H.I.E.L.D. itself. Sounds crazy? Watch the movie first and then come back here.
Anyways, Agent 13 who plays an important role in Captain America’s life is actually… Sharon Carter, the love interest of Captain America in the comic book and fortunately, since she appeared on this Marvel Studios film, we are looking forward to see more of her in the next Marvel franchises. That means we will be seeing more of Emily VanCamp, the Canadian actress who plays Sharon. Emily was known for her lead roles on the WB series Everwood (2002–06), ABC series Brothers & Sisters (2006–10), and the present ABC drama series Revenge.
Emily does not have only the mixed fierce and beautiful face, at 5’8′‘, she is stunning blonde haired femme fatale with a whistle-bait 33 hips and 23 waistline measurements. Just perfect for the role of Sharon Carter who is a trained athlete and martial artist. Sharon is highly trained in the ways of espionage, weapons, firearms and computers.
Sharon and Steve have an on and off relationship that extends in different retconned Marvel Universe.
And if her family name rings a bell to you, it is because you’ve heard it before. Sharon is the niece of Peggy Carter who was seen in Winter Soldier as the old lady in a hospital bed that Steve visited. Peggy was once Steve’s love interest in the World War II era before Captain America ‘death’ in 1945. Peggy, a fictional character, appeared on the 2011‘s Captain America: The First Avenger portrayed by Hayley Atwell, who reprise her role for the sequel.
Of Sharon’s fictional biography, she was born in Richmond, Virginia, the daughter of two wealthy Virginians, Harrison and Amanda Carter. She grew up with the stories of her aunt (Margaret “Peggy” Carter) who was a freedom fighter with the French Resistance during World War II. Inspired by her aunt’s adventures, Sharon joined the international security agency S.H.I.E.L.D., and was assigned the code name “Agent 13”. By this time, Steve Rogers, the patriotic hero known as Captain America, had been revived from suspended animation, and during one of Sharon’s earliest missions, he came to her aid when she came under attack by a mercenary known as Batroc the Leaper. The two of them crossed paths again and again, teaming up on several missions against A.I.M., HYDRA, Red Skull, and many others.
Over time, Sharon and Rogers eventually fall in love; the dangerous nature of Sharon’s work constantly puts a strain on their relationship, with Rogers wanting Sharon to give up her life as a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent.
In Winter Soldier, the film, Steve and Sharon never crossed their path again after Fury’s ‘death.’ As for her return in the next Marvel franchise, we shall be waiting for both Emily and Sharon.
