Technically, a dollar converted to Vietnamese dong is equivalent to VND21,060.70 (at the current exchange rate value). So, if you have a $100 and you’re a tourist in Vietnam, it’s almost like you just found a new place to stash millions… of dongs.

Almost all of the people living in Vietnam must have felt the ‘millionaire’s hand’ everyday but that isn’t the case for the locals. They may have large sum of money but the current trading and selling of items doesn’t cost cheap either. A regular order of young tofu – that’s taho for Pinoys, from a sidewalk vendor costs VND10,000 and the flat rate of taxi drops at VND11,000 on the first 0.7 km and VND15,800 on the succeeding 1 km ride.

On an average, a foreigner spending for a 3D/2N package may run from $500 or equivalent to (more or less) VND10,530,000 – that will include the hotel accommodation, food and local transportation, once you are in Vietnam.
