Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones opened in theaters on January 29, 2014 as the first horror flick salvo from United International Pictures through Solar Entertainment Corporation.
The opening scene starts on a high school graduation rites with buddies Jesse and Hector rejoicing around. Jesse received a video camera as gift from his dad and soon played around recording every jack-ass moments with Hector.
As they tweaked recordings, they eventually stumbled a long-time secret hidden under their noses, a dark secret by a rumored witch, Ana – a neighbor living at the basement flat of their apartment compound.
They discovered eerie and weird things afterwards and what shocked them the most was when Ana was found murdered and the suspect was one of their schoolmate, Oscar. Jesse then found himself having super human strength which at first they thought was cool but turned out to be a demonic curse.
Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones is a spin-off of the Paranormal Activity franchise. The Marked Ones strikes differently from the previous installments like it was mashed-up between the 2012 Chronicle, Exorcist and 2009 Drag Me To Hell. The version of the spin-off tried hard to connect The Marked Ones from the original story.
Nevertheless, this spin-off still has the scare factor and will not disappoint you with scenes that will jolt you from your seats. Until then, we’ll just wait for the official Paranormal Activity 5 set to be released on October 2014 in the U.S.
The cast of Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones include Andrew Jacobs as Jesse, Richard Cabral as Arturo, Carlos Pratts as Oscar, Gabrielle Walsh as Marisol, Jorge Diaz as Hector, Catherine Toribio as Penelope, Noemi Gonzalez as Evette, Gigi Feshold as Natalie, David Saucedo as Cesar Arista, Julian Works as Pablo, Molly Ephraim as Ali Rey , Katie Featherston as Adult Katie, Chloe Csengery as Young Katie, Jessica Tyler Brown as Young Kristi, and Micah Sloat as Micah.
We saw this movie during the premiere night at Promenade Cinema 7 in Greenhills that boasts of the new ATMOS 360 degrees surround theater system.
