Going back the memory lane, San Lazaro Hippodrome was once the home of the Manila Jockey Club (MCJ) horse race track in Manila that stood the test of time from 1897 to the 21st century. Fast forward to the future, it has now become the hub for lifestyle, entertainment, leisure with the emergence of modern malls and establishments that surrounds Binondo and Sta. Cruz area. It’s not a surprise that MCJ Investment Corporation puts its investment to Winford Hotel and Casino that towers above the San Lazaro Business and Tourism Park (SLBTP) boasting 22-storeys that house 128 deluxe rooms, with a three-level entertainment and gaming area.
“MCJ is celebrating its 150th year and the inauguration and opening of Winford is a milestone and permanent monument that more or less has succeeded in transforming the 16 hectares of space here in Sta. Cruz” said Winford Hotel and Casino Chairman and CEO Atty. Alfonso “Boy” Reyno, Jr.
Winford Hotel and Casino officially opens its door last April 21 with a Grand Opening launch and welcomes guests with auspicious celebration attended by VIPs and dignitaries who witnessed the opening ceremonies of the Php8-billion development such as Manila Mayor Joseph Estrada, Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR) Chairman and CEO Andrea Domingo, Chief Presidential Legal Cousel Salvador Panelo, Ombudsman Conchita Carpio Morales, and Department of Tourism Undersecretary Falconi Millar.
“When I stepped into the Winford Hotel and Casino, I was truly impressed,” said Domingo. “I’m very happy to see that the Winford group is truthfully adhering to the new policy of PAGCOR which is to encourage integrated resort casinos rather than just concentrate on gaming. We promise to extend our support to Winford and our future licensees,” she added.
We couldn’t agree more. We’re also impressed by the posh and grand design of Winford Hotel and Casino. It makes us feel that we’re not on this part of Manila area. The coming of Winford Hotel and Casino is a big opportunity for more tourists to visit Manila and have a grand staycation at this hotel.
The DOT also acknowledged Winford’s contribution to the country’s tourism goals. “As the outlook of the Philippine tourism remains bullish, we encourage hotel developers to build more accommodation facilities in the country,” said Millar. “Thank you to Winford Hotel and Casino for the establishment of this first hotel and we expect more as there will be more tourist arrivals”.
That statement made us more excited to spend a night or two at Winford Hotel and Casino.
Winford’s Vice President Atty. Alfonso “King” Reyno III also shared his high hopes for the luxury hotel and casino’s business future. “It’s a game-changer because as you know, there’s no other establishment similar to Winford within this vicinity of Manila, and you don’t have to go a long way to really find quality hotel accommodations much less a world-class casino and hotel facility,” he said.
Reyno also stated that what sets Winford apart from the competition is how the new entertainment, lifestyle, gaming and lodging brand lets guests experience world-class offerings without having to go far within the city of Manila particularly in the Binondo and Sta. Cruz areas.
Transportation-wise, Winford Hotel and Casino is traversed via major road arteries from downtown Manila via Rizal and Lacson Avenues, served by the Tayuman and Blumentritt stations LRT 1 Line and PNR railway station. In the future, Winford Hotel and Casino will also be accessible via the Metro Manila Skyway when it links the luxury structure to both the North and South Luzon expressways by 2019.
More attractions are slated to open in Winford within the year including the third-level gaming area, the signature Choi Garden Cantonese restaurant featuring Hong Kong chefs, and a line-up of world-class performers at its entertainment venue Hippodrome Bar.
