In a phone-patched interview by television news channel ANC, Philippine Ambassador to Japan Manolo Lopez shared to televiewers that visa-free travel access to Japan will likely to happen sometime soon in June this year.
Ambassador Lopez told the program, The Bureau, that the Philippine government is just awaiting for the official advise from Japan side, saying that it is more likely to happen this coming June.
A lot of people, especially netizens express their excitement over this latest update. This news is very timely now that the no. 1 airline in the Philippines and one of the fastest growing in Asia, Cebu Pacific Air, has recently opened its skies and now flies to the Land of The Rising Sun.
Cebu Pacific launched daily flights to Narita, Tokyo and four weekly flights to Nagoya. This on top of daily flights to Osaka.
According to Mich, a traveler who also works for an airline, “It’s a welcome development. Shows us that Japan thinks of Filipinos as a good source of tourists. It opens the doors too for more intercultural exchange between our two countries. I’m quite fascinated with Japan having stayed there for a year.”
The visa-free travel access will attract more visitors to Japan as they prepare for the up-coming 2020 Summer Olympics to be held in Tokyo on July 24 – August 9, 2020.
Currently, Japan has already reached its 10 million mark and they are targeting another 10 million visitors before 2020, according to Amb. Lopez.
“The lifting of visa requirements will put as at par with three Asian countries they (Japan) already allowed visa-free access. These are Thailand, Malaysia and Singapore,” Lopez continued during the phone-patched interview.
Last year, Japan has allowed multiple entries for Filipinos who want to visit their country as they boost up with their tourism and economy. Japan wants to sustain that momentum by inviting more tourists to come over and lifting the visa requirements will add to that numbers.
